There are 12 teams taking part in the event. Viet Nam are drawn in Group D with Laos and East Timor.

Hosts Japan are in Group A with Myanmar and Malaysia. Group B gathers Indonesia, Cambodia and the Philippines while Singapore, Brunei and Thailand are in Group C.

It is one of the activities of the Vietnamese team in preparation for the Asian Football Confederation Championship in Malaysia between September 20 and October 7. — VNS
