The national U22 football team will play against hosts China in its first match in a friendly international tournament in Wuhan, China, on November 8.

Coach Hoang Anh Tuan said he hoped his 26 players would avail of this chance to have a feel of the competitive atmosphere and pressure at the international level, something that will help them prepare for the upcoming important events.

“We will be playing only three matches here but these should be enough for us to put our players’ quality to test. The outcome will be reported to the national head coach, Nguyen Huu Thang, who will take a final decision about which players will go to the Southeast Asian Games in 2017,” Tuan said.

Hosts China have put together their strongest team for the event. The squad includes Wei Jingzong and Tang Shi who competed in Portugal and hogged much lime light. Tang scored against Vietnam’s U19 team in 2014.

Other participants are the UAE and Mexico.

The tournament will end on November 13.-VNA
