Three births, one special day
Nguyen Hong Bao Ngoc and Nguyen Phu, both 31, from Da Nang, were first loves, bonded for 12 years since school days. Before marriage, Ngoc had to undergo a surgery to treat an ovarian cyst, always worried about difficulty in having children. During that time, Phu was always by her side, caring and encouraging, becoming a solid support for his girlfriend.
In 2019, the couple got engaged and planned to hold the wedding in 2020. However, the Covid-19 outbreak caused the wedding to be postponed multiple times. In the end, they decided to register the marriage and move in together.
The surprise came in 2020 when Ngoc discovered she was pregnant. On September 5, 2020, she gave birth to their first daughter, named Nguyen Ngoc Thu Ky.
Two years later, she gave birth to their second son, also on September 5. In 2023, the youngest daughter was also born on September 5, leaving the whole family astonished. Notably, all 3 babies were born naturally, full-term, and healthy.
“We didn’t plan or ‘time’ anything or choose the birth dates. All three pregnancies were unplanned. When people found out our kids share the same birthday, many thought I chose C-section just to pick a ‘lucky’ date.”
The Da Nang mother recalled that she became pregnant with the youngest daughter when her son was only two months old. During an ultrasound, the doctor predicted a due date of September 5. She was surprised but also skeptical, thinking “due dates are just estimates, they could be off by a few days.”
In Vietnam, September 5 is a special day as it marks the beginning of the new school year.
The Da Nang mother recalled that she was pregnant with the third daughter when the second son was just 2 months old. During the ultrasound, the doctor predicted the due date as September 5, she was surprised but doubtful. Ngoc thought "the due date is just an estimate."
However, on the night of September 4, 2023, while selling goods, she broke water and had to rush to the hospital. Ngoc gave birth to the youngest daughter at dawn the next day (September 5) in her own surprise.
For Ngoc and her husband, the 3 children are priceless gifts. But having children close together also left many special memories. Ngoc shared: "Every time a child had their first birthday, I was in the hospital giving birth to the next one. I missed the 1-year-old birthday parties of the first daughter and the second son.
