Indonesian Wiper Eddy Saputra who got into trouble in Vietnam’s waters has been rescued by Vietnam MRCC staff.

According to Vietnam Maritime search and Rescue Coordination Centre (Vietnam MRCC), at 1.15 pm on July 3, the crewman was rescued and taken to hospital in Vung Tau for emergency treatment.

Earlier, at 3.45 pm on July 2, the captain of Ad Astra contacted Vietnam MRCC for the urgent rescue of Indonesian Wiper Eddy Saputra, 29, who had suffered from a severe pain in his lower abdomen, who then lost consciousness, likely having a ruptured appendix.

The vessel, carrying 68,201 tonnes of soybeans from Singapore to Zhoushan port in China, was situated 235 nautical miles southeast of Vung Tau.

After receiving the information, Vietnam MRCC connected with the 115 Emergency Centre of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province to conduct emergency medical advice for the patient, to avoid severe illness while waiting for rescue, whilst at the same time guiding the ship as it headed towards the Vung Tau shoreline.

Concerned with the patient’s critical condition, Vietnam MRCC urgently mobilised its SAR 413 rescue vessel operating in the Phu Quy Island waters to approach the Ad Astra.

SAR 413 ran a direct course to Ad Astra, at the fastest speed possible, to approach the ship and receive the patient. After receiving the patient, the staff on board deployed medical care measures on SAR 413, before transferring the patient for emergency treatment onshore.
