Around 1.11 million Vietnamese people of working age were unemployed by the end of the first quarter



According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the employed population was estimated at 53.19 million, up 74,430 compared to the same period of last year.   

Processing industries and education and training and retail saw an increased employment, while a decrease was reported in the areas of agro-forestry-fisheries; finance, banking and insurance.

By late the first three months of this year, roughly 138,800 university graduates were jobless, down 80,000 against the fourth quarter of 2016.

The average monthly salary of a paid employee was VND5.4 million (USD245.4), up VND323,000 against the fourth quarter of 2016. Meanwhile, the average income for paid university graduates was VND8.23 million.

Experts said that the local economy’s recovery had a good impact on the labour market. The number of those in employment in the second quarter of this year is forecasted to remain almost unchanged compared to the first quarter, at 53.47 million.
