Binh Dinh Province is a place of convergence and cultural harmony of many ethnic groups. In addition to the Kinh as majority, the province currently has 39 other ethnic minorities, mainly the three ethnic groups of Bana Kriem, Cham Hroi, and Hre.
The Bana Kriem community in Vinh Thanh district, Binh Dinh province has its own unique cultural features. In addition to folk songs, folk dances, and folk music, they have many unique traditional festivals such as the buffalo stabbing festival, the communal house festival, the new rice festival... that have been preserved and passed down from generation to generation.
The Bana Kriem people's new rice festival is one of the large-scale traditional festivals of the year. The festival consists of 3 main segments: the young women going to the fields to pick new rice and bringing rice back to the village, the fun scene of pounding green rice, and the festival according to the customs of the local people. The festival means giving thanks to heaven and earth, ancestors, welcoming the spirit of rice to the village, praying for a year full of rice, and the life of the villagers to be prosperous and happy.
The Bana Kriem people in Vinh Thanh district, Binh Dinh province recreated their new rice festival at the Cultural Festival of Ethnic Groups in the Central Region.
“The re-enactment of the new rice festival is a great opportunity for us to promote the cultural identity and spiritual life of the Bana Kriem people in Vinh Thanh. This is also an opportunity for us to interact with tourists present in Quy Nhon on this occasion", people's artist Dinh Chuong (84 years old, Vinh Son commune, Vinh Thanh district) said.
Festivals, rituals, and cultural activities have broadly simulated the cultural characteristics of ethnic groups’ folk beliefs, taking place solemnly and according to customs to give thanks to heaven and earth, ancestors, and to pray for peace, happiness, lush crops.
With the theme "Preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the Central Region's ethnic groups - Equality, solidarity, respect, integration and development", the 4th Central Vietnam Ethnic Cultural Festival created a meaningful cultural space for cultural management agencies, artisans, ethnic minorities... to meet, exchange, and share experiences in preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of ethnic groups.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung affirmed: "Through the festival, cultural achievements created over many generations will be continued, cultivated and enhanced over time. It is also an eloquent testament to the spirit of solidarity, indomitable will and desire to rise of the ethnic people in the region.”
This is also an opportunity to honor and promote the unique and special cultural values of ethnic minorities in the Central Region to domestic and international tourists.
