Universities now provide on-demand training

The University of Transport Technology (UTT) has recently said on its official website that it is enrolling students for training classes organized to order by Japanese enterprises.

Under the training cooperation contract signed between UTT and the Japanese side, the university would enroll 250 students by considering their school records and achievements at the national high-school finals. The students will receive training to become technicians in civil engineering, automobile, logistics and multimodal transport.

Students will be trained exactly in accordance with the standards set by Japanese enterprises. When finishing the training courses, they will have N3 certificate on Japanese language skills. 

After two years of studying in Vietnam, they will sent to Japan to works as interns. They also can come back to UTT to continue studying for bachelor’s degree. Besides, they will also be introduced to jobs at Japanese invested enterprises in Vietnam.

When the 2016-2017 academic year finished, UTT had 20 engineers going to Japan to work. Some of the engineers said their incomes are VND50-60 million a month.

UTT is not alone. Hoa Binh University has also been promoting on-demand training programs in some training majors, including IT and tourism service administration. The programs will be implemented under contracts signed between the school and its partners, namely Vietjet Air, Phu Long Real Estate JSC and Bac My An Tourism. 

Students can register training schedules that fit their capability and finish the classes after three years and get jobs at the enterprises if they can meet the requirements.

Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam, at a working session with relevant ministries recently, urged the ministries to build a policy for training orders.

Nguyen Thi Lan, director of the Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), one of the first universities running on the autonomy mechanism on a trial basis, said at the event that the financial support from the State budget has decreased, while there is no order for training and scientific research.

Therefore, the school took initiative in building the pilot on assigning training and scientific research tasks.

However, when compared with the draft decree, the school realized that the mechanism drafted by VNUA cannot be implemented because the draft has "forgotten" scientific research activities that serve training in universities. 

Dam said university autonomy is an indispensable goal. The pilot autonomy offered to 24 universities in the last three years has helped settle a lot of problems in state management and better schools’ operation. 

However, the implementation of the mechanism on ordering training and scientific research has been going very slowly.
