Vietnam needs more workers for digital marketing
In late February, Next Tech announced on vietnamworks.com that it was looking for a marketing director. The major requirement for the candidates was fluency in digital marketing. The offered pay was $3,000 a month.
Besides the post of digital marketing director, Next Tech was also seeking a high number of digital marketing officers.
According to Pham Thi Thuy Duong, head of the HR Division of Next Tech, the group has more than 10 subsidiaries which are running many projects. Each project and subsidiary needs four to five digital marketing officers.
Duong said it is now more difficult to recruit digital marketing officers. A number of ads on digital marketing officer recruitment can be seen on vietnamworks.com.
As the demand is high, employers now have to offer 30 percent more monthly pay than previously.
At Next Tech, one digital marketing officer with one or two years of experience receives no less than VND10 million a month.
Experts believe that as businesses strengthen their digital marketing activities, the demand for workers in the field will be increasing sharply. |
iNet, which specializes in providing software, domain names, digital content and training services, has also made hefty investments in digital marketing.
iNet’s founder Nguyen Trong Tho commented that digital marketing is becoming more important for businesses to find customers and popularize products.
Duong of Next Tech complained that it is difficult to find qualified candidates now as the quality of the human resources in the field is unsatisfactory.
“Candidates say they have experience in digital marketing, but in fact, they did not do the works themselves. They only drew up plans and then hired other firms to implement the plans,” she explained.
According to FPT Education, the average pay level for the workers in the field is $78,000 a year in the US and $7,000 in Vietnam.
However, the majority of workers in the field in Vietnam gain experience during their work and self-study, and are not trained in this major at schools.
FPT Education and India’s Skillking recently joined hands to set up a training program on digital marketing. A training course is expected to last two years.
RMIT Vietnam also began offering a digital marketing major in late 2017. Gael McDonald, Rector of RMIT Vietnam, said the school offered the new major in order to produce qualified workers in the increasingly important field.
Some education centers have opened short-term training courses on digital marketing which aim to provide basic knowledge and skills to beginners. The centers include MOA academy in HCMC, Kyna Center in Hanoi, and Vinalink in Hanoi.
