Unmuzzled dogs still often appear on pedestrian areas by Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi despite a local ban.

Since October 2016, Hanoi authorities have banned dogs without muzzles from the pedestrian zone around Hoan Kiem Lake.

The move followed complaints about a large number of dogs in the pedestrian streets.

Inspite of the ban, people still bring their dogs there. However, no sanctions have been applied.

In many cases, dogs defecate on the streets but their owners didn’t clean after them, affecting the local environment.

At a recent meeting of the city, Dinh Hong Phong, vice chairman of Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee, said that most of dogs taken to pedestrian streets around Hoan Kiem Lake have not been muzzled. Local authorities have reminded their owners, but the situation has not improved.

Phong added that in the city would consider prohibiting dogs completely from the pedestrian streets.
