Hanoi witnessed a heavy rain with strong wind for around two hours on Friday morning, causing traffic jams for many streets.

On Phan Huy Chu Street in Hoan Kiem Lake, an old tree was suddenly uprooted by the wind and fell on a car being parked nearby. No injuries were reported.

Hanoi traffic police quickly came to the site to ensure traffic kept moving, while the city’s Park and Green Tree Company sent staff to take the tree away.

The incident caused traffic jam on Phan Huy Chu Street.

Bad weather often affects the capital’s trees.

In August last year, up to 3,000 trees in the city were ripped up by a storm, with many of which were revealed to have been badly planted, with their roots still covered by plastic which should have been removed prior to being put into the soil.

The municipal people’s committee punished 15 companies which were responsible for growing these trees.
