The visit of the US Deputy Secretary of State comes after US-ASEAN Special Summit in May, President Joe Biden's visits to the Republic of Korea and Japan, the Quad Summit in Tokyo, and the US' announcement of Indo-Pacific Economic Framework.

The first stop of Ms. Sherman's trip will be the Republic of Korea, followed by the Philippines, Laos and Vietnam.

According to the US State Department, during her stay in Hanoi, Sherman will meet with Vietnamese officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc in order to highlight the strength of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership as well as the US support for a strong, prosperous and independent Vietnam.

Sherman will also announce additional US support for unexploded ordnance clearance operations to demonstrate her nation's commitment to deal with war aftermath.

She will also discuss supply chain resilience with private sector representatives in Vietnam and will join Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan to launch a project on wildlife trade combat in Vietnam by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

In addition, during her stay in Ho Chi Minh City, the US diplomat will meet municipal Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen and give a speech at Fulbright University.
