Brown and US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink visited the Hai Ba Trung Temple (Trung Sisters) in Dong Nhan ward, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi city.

The US delegation was received by the temple’s representatives, nun Thich Dam Hieu of Vien Minh pagoda (part of Hai Ba Trung temple) and historian Duong Trung Quoc.

During the visit, Mr. Duong Trung Quoc briefed the international visitors on the history of the temple and precious historical information about Hai Ba Trung, the heroines of the Vietnam’s nation.

Recalling President Trump’s words about the image of Hai Ba Trung to emphasize the role of Vietnamese heroes in shaping the future of the country at the APEC Summit in Danang in October 2017, Duong Trung Quoc affirmed that Hai Ba Trung is a symbol of gender equality as well as of the resilience of the Vietnamese women.

The two US senior officials said they were honored to visit the Hai Ba Trung Temple and to learn about Vietnam's culture and history.

They also offered incense to pay tribute to Hai Ba Trung.

When visiting the temple ground, the US visitors were also introduced to the stone carved with the names of the heroes that sacrificed themselves for the independence, freedom of Vietnam in the past. "We hope the list of people who have to sacrifice themselves for national independence will not be lengthened in the future," historian Duong Trung Quoc told the visitors, stressing that the Vietnamese is a peace-loving people.

TSpeaking to the press at the end of the visit, General Robert B. Brown affirmed that the US military will cooperate with the Vietnamese military to maintain peace in the region and the world, and ensure freedom of navigation in the sea and compliance of international law.

The Vietnamese People's Army is very professional so the US Army and Vietnamese People's Army should learn experience from each other, he said, “The more we work together, the better we cooperate."
