Jurgen Klinsmann, the current coach of the US national team, has called up Vietnamese-American midfielder Lee Nguyen to play for the 4th qualifying round of World Cup 2018 which is scheduled for early this year, according to a local newspaper.
Nguyen will also join other national football players to perform at two upcoming friendly matches with Iceland (January 31) and Canada (February 5).
Lee Nguyen (or Nguyen The Anh in Vietnamese), 29, is an American soccer midfielder for the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer (MLS). He holds dual citizenship in the United States and Vietnam.
In the 2006-2007 football season, Nguyen was called up to play for the US national team for the first time.
Nguyen has been among the top scorers over the past few years in Major League Soccer in the US.
Recently, he landed at Tan Son Nhat International Airport for a holiday with his US girlfriend. This was his first visit to Vietnam in four years.
