Director of the US Peace Corps Carrie Hessler-Radelet is paying a working visit to Vietnam from October 31 to November 4, seeking to discuss when and how to implement the programme.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Hai Binh informed that to the pressmen attending the Ministry's regular press conference in Hanoi on November 3.

He said during US President Barack Obama’s trip to Vietnam in May 2016, Vietnam and the US signed a framework agreement on the Peace Corps operation in Vietnam.

The ongoing visit of Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet is intended to discuss the schedule to realise the programme, he added.

The Peace Corps volunteers will teach the English language in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Peace Corps sends the best and brightest Americans abroad on behalf of the United States to tackle the most pressing needs of people around the world.

Volunteers work at the grassroots level to develop sustainable solutions that address challenges in education, health, economic development, agriculture, environment and youth development.

Since President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps in 1961, nearly 220,000 Americans of all ages have served in 140 countries worldwide.-VNA
