Hanoi car showrooms are still receiving visitors, but they mostly window shop and ask about prices but don’t close deals.
The used car salons on Nguyen Chanh in Cau Giay district, on Pham Hung in Nam Tu Liem, and Nguyen Xien in Thanh Xuan have become deserted.
Van Hanh, the owner of a used car shop on Nguyen Chanh street, sais that sales have halved because of the possible vehicle registration tax cut.
“Visitors just ask information about prices for reference, and they don’t intend to buy cars now,” he explained.
Dinh Giang, a car dealer on Nguyen Xien street, said that he sold only about 10 cars in May and the sales have slowed down.
Le Xuan, who plans to buy a used car, said it would be unwise to buy a car right now.
“If the government approves the proposal on the registration tax cut, both used car and new car buyers will benefit,” Xuan said.
“Once new cars become cheaper, used car sellers will also cut their selling prices to balance the actual value of products,” he explained.
Hanh said some customers don’t want to wait any longer to own a used car. The customers mostly buy affordable common models with good fuel economy..
Toyota Vios and Hyundai i10 are the most wanted models, especially those manufactured in 2020 onward.
Both of these car models have reasonable prices, good designs, sufficient engines, good fuel economy and convenience. Toyota Vios is favored because of its durable engine.
