VND15 million is the price quoted by most private iPhone shops in Hanoi for iPhone XR 64 GB. The price levels vary by hundreds of thousand of dong, depending on the product color.

The price is VND2.5 million lower than brandnew iPhone XR imported through official channels and VND4.5 million lower than products distributed by official channels.

“Brandnew iPhone XR now can be bought at VND17.5 million, which is just a little cheaper. Therefore, they are not selling well,” the owner of a shop on Thai Ha street in Hanoi said.

When asked why he is still selling iPhone XRs despite the anticipated slow sales, the dealer said the availability of used products offers more choices to customers.

The used iPhone XRs come from authorized resellers in the US. 

“iPhone XR model was launched into the market recently, so the imported products are still under warranty,” said Bui Quang Trung from a shop on Cau Giay street.

“When buying the used products, users feel more secure about the quality. No need to worry about refurbishment and replaced accessories,” he explained, adding that many users would rather buy used products with guarantee about quality, than brand new products with unclear sources and quality.

However, Trung admitted that iPhone XR has not attracted customers in Vietnam because of the high price.

“If someone has VND15-17 million, he will choose iPhone X instead of iPhone XR,” he commented.

Also according to Trung, the shops in Hanoi are selling iPhone XRs from the first consignment of these products imported to Vietnam, so the price is relatively high. The selling price may change in the time to come.

Vietnamese users in Vietnam can use eSIM with the iPhone XRs since they are the international model. However, since these are used products, they are selling with no accessories.

Among the products priced at VND15 million and more, iPhone XR has to compete with iPhone X. It has an LCD screen with relatively thick border and has only one camera instead of double camera as see on iPhone X. 

In related news, the largest mobile network operators in Vietnam, including Viettel, VinaPhone and MobiFone, in mid-February announced the trial use of eSIMs before Vietnamese clients can register to use eSIM next month.
