No 1 seed Vo Quoc Uy booked a berth in the final of the International Tennis Federation Asia U14&U Development Championship, Division 2, after an easy win on Friday morning in HCM City.

Uy, of the hosts, defeated Rakib Hossain of Bangladesh 6-2, 6-1 in the boys’ singles semi-finals at the Phú Thọ Club.
He will next vie for a gold medal against Taym Alazmeh from Syria on Saturday.
Uy is one of the rising stars of Việt Nam, who is living in the US. He entered among the top three in a tournament in Florida last year, after winning the U14 class at the national championship in 2017 and the U12 in 2016. He also entered the top eight of the U16 category at the National Best Tennis Players Championship in 2017.
On the girls’ side, two Vietnamese players, Lê Thảo Hân and Nguyễn Minh Thuý Hằng, lost in the semi-finals.
Hân lost 0-6, 1-6 to Lenanon’s Maria Breidy, while Hằng was beaten by Safi from Iran.
The tournament lures nearly 100 athletes, including 10 of the hosts, from 16 delegations. They compete in five categories of boys’ and girls’ singles and doubles.
The finals are scheduled on January 20. — VNS
