Vietnamese citizens, overseas Vietnamese, and their spouses and children who have not been vaccinated or have not received enough doses of Covid-19 vaccine can get free doses of vaccine during isolation if they wish.

PM Pham Minh Chinh has underlined the necessity of providing two injections for people over 18 years old, as well as a third jab for those who need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 no later than December 31.

The HCM City health sector plans to provide third vaccine shots to 6.3 million people who have been fully vaccinated in an effort to boost their immunity against COVID-19 beginning on December 10.

Ho Chi Minh City currently has no plans to vaccinate children aged 12-17 against COVID-19, deputy head of the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control Pham Duc Hai affirmed on October 18.

In many countries, only Pfizer vaccine has been approved for people aged 12 to 17. In Vietnam, this vaccine may be also used for children.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced on October 15 that it is expected to issue a vaccination plan against COVID-19 for those between the age of 12 and 18.

Vietnam plans to receive 34 million vaccine doses in October and more by the end of the year. It is creating a master vaccination plan for 2022, including vaccinations for children.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, head of the Government's Working Group on vaccine diplomacy, said Vietnam needs to develop a master plan for COVID-19 vaccines in 2022 based on the country’s demand. 

Vietnam recorded an additional 5,376 COVID-19 infections, including 5,367 domestic and nine imported cases, in the past 24 hours to 5pm on October 3, the Ministry of Health announced.

About 41.1% of Vietnamese people aged 18 and above have received the first dose of a vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, according to Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long.

Hanoi's strategy of quickly isolating areas where positive cases were found and carrying out testing campaigns at "lightening speed" helped prevent the spread of the virus.
