The popular tourist town of Tam Dao in the northern province of Vinh Phuc has been left in a mess due to a large number of projects being built.

The mountainous town was first built into a holiday destination by the French in the early 20th century. However, most of the buildings have deteriorated with time.

The town is being transformed with holiday and resort projects.

Visitors coming to Tam Dao at this time may not find the peaceful and quiet atmosphere with fresh air and green forests anymore. Many have complained that the town is a vast construction site with noise and dust everywhere.

The prime minister agreed a plan to transform Tam Dao into a supposed eco-tourism site by 2020.

In a recent meeting with the media, vice chairman of Vinh Phuc Provincial People's Committee, Vu Chi Giang, said they have started a large number of construction projects including roads, four-star hotels, a recreation park, and a high-end tourism complex since 2014 which apparently is part of the eco-tourism plan.
