Some 19,300 vehicles across the country will be forced off the road by early 2019 due to their expired and overdue registrations

Of the number, there are 1,776 passenger vehicles while the remainder are trucks. HCMC takes the lead with 4,359 units, followed by Hanoi with 1,976 units and Dong Nai Province with 1,556 units.

A representative of Vietnam Register told the Vietnam News Agency that letting vehicles with expired registrations run on the road would have serious implications in case of an accident and violates the regulations of the Law on Road Traffic.

Vietnam Register asked vehicle registration centers around the country to share information with traffic police, departments of transport and local traffic inspectorates.

Accordingly, those caught with expired registrations could have their vehicles impounded, in line with Government Decree 46/2016/ND-CP, dated May 26, 2016.
