Viatris and Long Chau have launched a nationwide campaign to improve the detection and management of lipid disorders in Vietnam, where noncommunicable diseases account for nearly four in five deaths.
According to the World Health Organization, noncommunicable diseases, or NCDs, account for approximately 78% of all deaths in Vietnam, with cardiovascular disease remaining the leading cause of mortality.
Despite being a major contributor to cardiovascular disease, lipid disorders remain substantially underdiagnosed and undertreated in the country, with many people unaware of their risk until serious complications occur.
Viatris in Vietnam, part of global healthcare company Viatris Inc., and Long Chau Pharmacy & Vaccination System officially launched the “Community Partnership for Lipid Care” campaign in Ho Chi Minh City on Sept. 9.

The initiative combines professional education, community health programs and collaboration with leading Vietnamese medical associations to strengthen lipid disorder management.
By encouraging earlier detection and greater public awareness, the campaign is intended to support broader efforts in Vietnam to prevent and manage NCDs, which continue to place a growing burden on individuals, families and the healthcare system.
“At Viatris, we believe improving health outcomes requires more than medicines alone,” said Radhika Bhalla, head of Viatris Vietnam and Asia Alliance Markets.” “It requires stronger health literacy, empowered healthcare professionals, and partnerships that bring care closer to communities. Together with Long Chau and our medical society partners, we are working to help address one of Vietnam's most important public health challenges,” she added.

The campaign takes a multi-pronged approach encompassing professional capacity building, public health education and patient support.
A key focus is the role of community pharmacists, who are among the most accessible points of contact with the healthcare system for many patients.
By strengthening pharmacists’ ability to identify risks, provide counseling and support treatment adherence, the program aims to encourage earlier intervention and improve continuity of care for people living with chronic conditions.
Around 1,000 pharmacists across Long Chau’s network are expected to receive advanced training in patient counseling and treatment adherence support.
Nguyen Do Quyen, deputy CEO of FPT Retail and chief operating officer of Long Chau Pharmacy & Vaccination System, said community pharmacists were playing an increasingly important role in helping people prevent and manage chronic diseases.
“In addition to continuously strengthening the professional capabilities of our pharmacists, Long Chau is committed to expanding community health education through seminars, health counseling, and public education initiatives,” Quyen said.
These efforts, she added, are intended to help people take a more proactive approach to their health, identify risk factors earlier and manage chronic conditions more effectively.
Long Chau operates more than 2,700 pharmacies across 34 provinces and cities, supported by more than 22,000 healthcare professionals and digital platforms.
Quyen said the network would continue bringing healthcare services and education closer to communities, strengthening its role as an extension of the healthcare system and contributing to better management of cardiovascular and other noncommunicable diseases in Vietnam.
As part of the campaign, Viatris will work with the Vietnam Health Education and Counseling Association and the Vietnam National Heart Association to organize community health education seminars through Long Chau’s digital platforms.
These will be accompanied by health counseling activities at pharmacies across Long Chau’s nationwide network.
The campaign is expected to reach approximately 3 million people and deliver 10 community health engagement activities across five provinces and cities in Vietnam’s three regions, as well as advanced training for around 1,000 Long Chau pharmacists.
The activities are designed to improve public understanding of cardiovascular risk factors, encourage proactive health screening and earlier detection of lipid disorders, and promote adherence to treatment under the guidance of healthcare professionals.
Following the campaign launch, Viatris, in collaboration with the Center for Support and Continuing Education under the Vietnam Medical Association, will conduct a professional training program for 150 Long Chau pharmacists.
The program will cover the latest advances in cardiovascular and metabolic disease management while strengthening pharmacists’ skills in patient counseling and treatment adherence support.
Medical experts will also share scientific evidence and practical experience in managing lipid disorders, highlighting the growing role of community pharmacists in supporting people with chronic diseases.
The launch marks five years of strategic partnership between Viatris and Long Chau in community healthcare in Vietnam.
Over that period, the two companies have expanded their collaboration from professional education initiatives to broader community health programs, building a platform to address chronic disease prevention and management on a larger scale.
One milestone was the “Hypertension Management: Screen Early - Treat Right - Live Well” program in 2025, conducted in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of Internal Medicine.
The initiative provided professional training to 940 Long Chau pharmacists and delivered online educational seminars and community health counseling at 23 locations across 11 provinces and cities, expanding access to information about hypertension prevention and management for millions of people.
Building on their five-year partnership, the 2026 lipid care campaign represents the next phase of collaboration between Viatris and Long Chau, with a focus on strengthening professional cooperation, expanding the role of community pharmacists and improving access to healthcare.
The broader goal is to improve the prevention and management of noncommunicable diseases and contribute to better health outcomes for communities across Vietnam.
