Recent data from i-Speed, developed by the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) under the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), shows that the average mobile internet download speed in Vietnam reached 54.34 Mbps in July 2024, a slight increase from 52.4 Mbps recorded in June. The upload speed has remained stable at around 21.19 Mbps.
Since March 2024, the country's average mobile internet download speed has seen a steady rise from 38.69 Mbps, showcasing a substantial improvement in user experience. Similarly, upload speeds have witnessed a 20% increase during the same period.
In the competitive landscape of mobile internet services, Viettel has emerged as the leader, offering an average download speed of 65.89 Mbps and an upload speed of 21.71 Mbps as of July 2024. VNPT follows with average speeds of 52.99 Mbps (download) and 21.5 Mbps (upload). MobiFone and Vietnamobile trail with lower speeds.
For fixed broadband, Viettel also leads with the highest average download speed of 128.97 Mbps. Other major players like FPT Telecom and VNPT also show strong performances, indicating robust competition in the sector.
The Ministry of Information and Communications has been proactive in publishing these metrics to foster a competitive and transparent environment for internet services. This move not only empowers consumers to make informed decisions but also drives ISPs to improve their service quality continually.
"Publicly disclosing service quality metrics has catalyzed improvements across all providers, enhancing the overall infrastructure and user experience in the digital space," noted a spokesperson from the MIC.
The Department of Telecommunications has urged the public to regularly use the i-Speed application, a tool designed to measure internet access speeds without incurring data charges. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to engage consumers in actively monitoring and reporting on their internet service quality.
As Vietnam continues to advance its digital infrastructure, the consistent improvement in internet speeds is a positive indicator of the country's commitment to fostering a dynamic and competitive telecommunications sector. With ongoing regulatory efforts and active consumer engagement, Vietnam is set to maintain its trajectory towards becoming a leading digital economy in the region.
