The VN426 flight of the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines (VNA) on route from Hanoi to Gimhae International Airport in Busan, the Republic of Korea (RoK), had to make an emergency landing in Hong Kong (China) on October 28, so that urgent medical attention could be provided to a passenger suffering from a stroke.

The VNA said on November 2 that approximately two hours after taking off from Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport, a male passenger of RoK nationality collapsed while moving to the terminal area of the plane due to a sudden heart attack.

The crew members and two doctors who were passengers on the flight conducted first aid and gave oxygen therapy to the 29-year-old man but his condition did not improve.

In order to ensure the passenger's life, the captain decided to make an emergency landing in Hong Kong and contacted the airport authority for medical assistance.

The man was then rushed to a local hospital after landing.

At the time of landing in Hong Kong, a child passenger suddenly suffered a fever of more than 40 degrees Celsius. Due to the absence of any special medicine on the flight, the crew decided to extend the landing time in Hong Kong to take the child and his parents to a local hospital.

A VNA representative said that the two passengers have recovered and have been discharged from hospital, before flying to the RoK.

Previously on October 15, a Vietnamese-French passenger also had health problems after four hours of departure from Hanoi on route to France, forcing the VN19 flight to make an emergency landing in India. The ill passenger was rushed to hospital and her condition has since stabilised.
