Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung (L) and Minister of Sports Mikhail Degtyarev sign a memorandum of understanding on promoting physical education and sports ties.

Addressing a meeting held in Moscow on July 4, Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung suggested that both sides work to strengthen collaboration efforts for the development of sports in their territories.

He requested that the Russian side strive to support Vietnam in training coaches and athletes in some sports that Russia has strengths in, such as gymnastics and track-and-field.

On the Russian side, Minister of Sports Mikhail Degtyarev thanked Vietnam for supporting Russia to oppose the politicisation of sports, while expressing great appreciation for the participation of Vietnamese athletes in sporting competitions held in Russia.

Russia stands ready to provide training courses for Vietnamese coaches and athletes in some sports that Russia is strong in, while also reinforcing co-operation in football, shooting, and badminton, he confirmed.

The two sides also agreed to establish a Vietnam-Russia working group chaired by deputy ministers of both sides as a way of exchanging and implementing collaboration programmes for coaches and athletes in sports that each country has strengths in.
