Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon chaired a meeting in New York on September 22, where they discussed the upcoming Vietnam visit by U.S. President Donald Trump.

President Trump will visit Vietnam in November and attend the 2017 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation economic leaders’ meeting at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, according to VnExpress online newspaper.

According to Shannon, the visit is aimed at promoting bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, science and technology, security and defense, and humanity as well as regional and international issues.

Shannon spoke highly of positive developments in Vietnam-U.S. relations in recent years and suggested the two countries promote mutual visits and meetings to deepen bilateral ties.

The meeting also tabled measures to realize the agreements arrived at during Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to the U.S. in May.

Minh proposed stepping up cooperation in multiple fields at bilateral, regional and international levels.

Taking place from November 6 to 11, APEC Vietnam 2017 will be attended by about 10,000 delegates from the 21 APEC member economies.
