VietNamNet Bridge - In a report aired in early January, the US television channel CNN praised Vietnamese architect Vo Trong Nghia’s house for the poor, house made from bamboo and house with a green roof. The designs were created by Nghia and his colleagues in Vietnam.

Each month, CNN airs a program called "Ones to Watch," referring to the talents who could become big names in the fields of culture and art. In January, the program introduced Vietnamese architect Vo Trong Nghia and Nigerian architect Kunle Adeyemi.

The program included renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, who was selected as the architect for the reconstruction of the World Trade Center after the 9/11 event, and British architect David Adjaye.

The film crew and Vo Trong Nghia spent 10 days filming Nghia’s works, a wind and water restaurant, a five-block house covered by trees, a bamboo house on the Diamond Island, and the process to build houses for the poor.

Emphasizing that bamboo is the "steel" of the 21st century, Nghia said: "In a tropical country like Vietnam, we have a lot of bamboo, which is very cheap and can make elegant beauty that we cannot find from concrete and steel." He also spoke about green housing in cities in Vietnam and construction of houses for the poor.

Meanwhile, Nigerian architect Kunle Adeyemi introduced his houses on and near the water in Makoko (Lagos, Nigeria).
