A Vietnamese Party delegation attended the meeting of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) Standing Committee, in Jakarta, Indonesia from April 22-24.

The 26th meeting of the ICAPP Standing Committee reviewed ICAPP activities and approved action plans, with the focus on preparations for the 9th ICAPP plenary meeting slated for September in Malaysia.

On the occasion, the first tripartite meeting was held among ICAPP Standing Committee and the executive committees of the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean (COPPPAL), and the Council of African Political Parties (CAPP).

The trilateral meeting adopted the Jakarta Joint Statement, stressing political parties’ commitment to realising goals in the UN Charter and the Bandung statement on peace and cooperation.

Delegates stressed the principles of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign nations and addressing disputes by peaceful measures.

Participants also discussed challenges that the three continents have in common, including hunger, poverty, environmental degradation and climate change.

The Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Affairs Tran Dac Loi, contributed to discussions at the events.

The delegation also held meetings with officials from the Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDI-P) and several other political parties.
