Foreign providers of packaging and equipment are increasingly keen on the Vietnamese market due to the high demand for fast-moving consumer goods, packaged food, beverages and pharmaceutical products.

At a press conference on Tuesday on ProPak Vietnam 2018, an international exhibition of the food, beverage and pharmaceutical processing and packaging sectors slated for March 20-23 in HCMC, the organizer said suppliers of packaging equipment worldwide see potential and advantages of the Vietnamese market. Therefore, they tend to participate in specialized fairs and expos to timely meet the demand of Vietnamese producers, said BT Tee, general director of UBM VES Company, the exhibition organizer.
ProPak Vietnam 2018 which will take place at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in HCMC has attracted numerous food, beverage and pharmaceutical processing and packaging enterprises, Tee said.
According to experts, foreign firms consider the local packaging industry underdeveloped while there will be a surge in goods production for local consumption and export, leading to huge demand for packaging products.
In addition, foreign investments in the Vietnamese food processing sector are increasing strongly to meet the demand for high-quality food products. Many domestic and international enterprises have poured capital into the market such as CJ, Vingroup, Vissan, Hoa Phat and Fujitsu.
The demand for packaging products in the local market will rocket, of which the food processing sector is expected to surge by 38% a year. The printing market posts a stable growth of 10%.
At the press conference, Luu Duan, vice chairman of the Vietnam Association of Food Science and Technology which will organize a seminar at ProPak Vietnam 2018, said packaging products are important to consumers’ buy decisions. Therefore, ProPak Vietnam 2018 will help local producers access the latest technologies and equipment of the sector.
More than 420 enterprises from 29 countries and territories have signed up to participate in ProPak Vietnam 2018 including 11 international pavilions of participating companies from India, Taiwan, Denmark, Germany, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, China and Italy.
Plastics & Rubber Vietnam 2018, an international exhibition on technology, materials and equipment for the plastic and rubber industry in Vietnam, will be also held under the same roof at the same time with ProPak Vietnam 2018. More than 160 enterprises from 20 countries and territories have confirmed their attendance.
