Prime Minister Le Minh Hung attended the plenary session of the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan, capital of Russia's Republic of Tatarstan, on June 18, as leaders gathered to celebrate 35 years of relations between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Russia.

The summit brought together Russian President Vladimir Putin, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn and leaders of ASEAN member states.

The anniversary meeting was regarded as an important milestone for advancing the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership, reinforcing political commitments, revitalizing cooperation and defining future directions across the partnership's three key pillars: political-security, economic, and socio-cultural cooperation.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung's participation underscored the strategic importance Vietnam places on ASEAN-Russia cooperation and reflected the country's desire to serve as a bridge in promoting a more substantive, effective and mutually beneficial strategic partnership.

The event also provided an opportunity to inject new momentum into ASEAN-Russia relations as both sides mark the 35th anniversary of their partnership.

Vietnam is expected to work with fellow ASEAN members to promote a practical, balanced and results-oriented approach to cooperation with Russia. Hanoi also hopes to contribute to expanding engagement between ASEAN and the broader Eurasian region.

Prior to the summit, President Putin hosted a reception for ASEAN leaders attending the commemorative gathering.

The summit forms part of a broader series of activities during Prime Minister Le Minh Hung's visit to Kazan, where he has also held meetings with Russian business leaders and participated in events aimed at strengthening economic and investment cooperation between ASEAN and Russia.

Earlier this week, the prime minister met executives from Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom and state oil company Zarubezhneft, and attended the ASEAN-Russia Business Forum alongside leaders from Malaysia and Thailand.

He also visited the "Made in Tatarstan" exhibition showcasing the republic's industrial and high-tech capabilities.

The ASEAN-Russia commemorative summit is expected to help shape future cooperation priorities and strengthen engagement between Southeast Asia and one of Eurasia's key strategic partners.
