Vietnam will continue its efforts to expand cooperation with other countries and support the international community’s efforts to counter terrorism and extremism on the basis of respecting the UN Charter and international law.

Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Van Son made the statement at the 16th Meeting of Heads of Special Services, Security Agencies and Law Enforcement Organisations held in Russia’s Krasnodar city on October 4-5.
Terrorism is developing more complicatedly, especially the rapid growth of science-technology, espeically information technology and the Internet, causing serious consequences for many nations and territories.
Vietnam has encouraged the involvement of the entire people in the combat against terrorism, while building a legal framework, strengthening measures to detect and prevent terrorism and extremism activities, and coordinating with other countries and international organisations in this fierce fight, Son said.
To increase the efficiency of the work, the Vietnamese official proposed intensifying cooperation between special services and law enforcement agencies to control and prevent funds or websites related to terrorism, and working with other countries in investigating terrorism cases.
Speaking at the event, Russia's Federal Security Service Chief Alexander Bortnikov said that the international terrorist organisation Islamic State planned to create another worldwide terrorist network, as they had practically suffered defeat in building a caliphate in the territory of Syria and Iraq.
Therefore, all nations worldwide should intensify cooperation to deal with the main threat of the era, particularly in the context that terrorists are using information technology as an efficient tool in conducting their crimes, he added.
The meeting attracted the participation of 116 delegations from 74 nations and international organisations.
This year’s theme focused on the perfection of the national counter-terrorism system in Russia and the sharing of countries’ experience in fighting terrorists as well as discussions on measures to ensure security for international activities.
