Following a 0-3 defeat to tournament heavyweight China in their previous match, Vietnam entered the decisive clash against Myanmar with strong determination. Coach Okiyama Masahiko’s side started confidently and immediately pushed forward with attacking intent.
Vietnam opened the scoring in the 18th minute through a superb long-range free-kick from Linh Chi, who struck brilliantly from well outside the penalty area. After taking the lead, the Vietnamese side controlled the tempo effectively with composed short-passing combinations.
Myanmar attempted to respond late in the first half but struggled to break through Vietnam’s disciplined defence. The opening period ended with Vietnam holding a deserved advantage.
Vietnam continued to look sharper after the break. In the 55th minute, Ngoc Anh delivered another stunning free-kick from the left side to beat the Myanmar goalkeeper and double the lead to 2-0.
Myanmar pulled one back in the 66th minute thanks to a goal from Dar Hnin, setting up a tense finale.
Both teams battled fiercely in the closing stages, but Vietnam defended resolutely to preserve the 2-1 victory. The result secured Vietnam a place in the knockout round as runners-up in Group A.
Vietnam finished level on four points with Thailand but advanced thanks to a superior goal difference.
