Vietnam is studying and will be capable of producing vaccine against the African swine fever, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development at a recent meeting in Hanoi.
Since the first case was detected in China, the Ministry has designed an action plan to respond to the African swine fever outbreak and worked with the Ministry of Science and Technology on a rapid diagnostic kit to prevent the virus from spreading.
The Vietnam National University of Agriculture is studying the virus biological characteristics for vaccine production.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong said “The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Health are working with research institutes to produce vaccine against the African swine fever as soon as possible. Vietnam will finalize biosecurity solutions to crack down the outbreak.”
The African swine fever virus has been detected in 60 countries around the world. There has been no medicine to prevent the disease since the the first outbreak in Kenya a century ago.
