Vietnam lost out to their Thai rivals 3-1 in their final match of the first round held on the evening of August 6.
Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet fielded the strongest line-up possible for the game, featuring key players such as Kieu Trinh, Nguyen Thi Trinh, and Tu Linh.
With great support from local fans, the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team got off to a good start and trounced Thailand 25-22 in the first set. However, the situation flipped in the second set as the Thai players constantly attacked to gain a victory of 25-20.
The strong performance from the Thai volleyballers helped to the away team to take the next two sets 28-26 and 25-17. After the first round in Vinh Phuc province, all four teams are now set to travel to Thailand to compete in the second round. Based on the results of the two qualifying rounds, the teams will then compete for the first to fourth places.
The SEA Women's Volleyball Tournament was first held back in 2019, with this year marking the third edition of the tournament, bringing together four teams from Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
This year the women’s event is split into two rounds, with the first one being held from August 4 to August 6 in Vietnam.
The second round is scheduled to take place between August 11 and August 13 at the 3,000-seater gymnasium in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
