Vietnam’s women’s national football team edged past Thailand 1-0 in the 2025 AFF Women’s Championship, sealing a perfect group stage with three wins. Thu Thao scored the decisive goal in the 36th minute from a precise assist by captain Huynh Nhu.

The match at Lach Tray Stadium was tense from the start, with Thailand hitting the crossbar in the fourth minute. Vietnam quickly responded with several chances through Bich Thuy and Huynh Nhu, but missed narrowly.

The breakthrough came when Huynh Nhu skillfully broke down the right wing and crossed low for Thu Thao to finish one-touch past goalkeeper Pawarisa.

In the second half, coach Mai Duc Chung’s side shifted to a controlled tempo, neutralizing Thailand’s attacks with a solid defensive performance led by Chuong Thi Kieu.

The victory extends Vietnam’s unbeaten record against Thailand to a decade and sends them into the semifinals as Group A leaders, avoiding a likely clash with Group B favorites Philippines.

Starting lineup - Vietnam: Kim Thanh, Chuong Thi Kieu, Tran Thi Thu, Tran Thi Hai Linh (Thanh Nha 68’), Tran Thi Thu Thao, Tran Thi Duyen, Huynh Nhu (Hai Yen 73’), Diem My, Thai Thi Thao, Nguyen Thi Van, Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy (Van Su 68’).
