Power supply for production and domestic consumption in 2020 would be ensured, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

Viet Nam's largest electricity producer barely managed to break even during 2016-18 and lacks resources to maintain financial stability and growth.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) will be checking electricity production and business costs of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) from last year.

With power transmission lines and sub-stations getting overloaded in some provinces, authorities and experts have urged the Government to allow renewable energy investors to install transmission systems and transfer them to EVN for operation.

Vietnam has set a target of raising renewable energy production from 58 billion kWh in 2015 to 101 billion kWh in 2020, 186 billion kWh in 2030, and 452 billion kWh in 2050.
