Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the global esports market has seen significant growth. In 2022, the worldwide audience for esports reached 532 million viewers, with 271 million categorized as casual viewers and 261 million as regular viewers. Projections indicate that by 2025, the number of regular viewers will reach 318 million, and global esports revenue will surpass $1.86 billion.

In Vietnam, the esports industry recorded a revenue of $5.78 million in 2023, reflecting an 11.15% increase compared to the previous year. Market forecasts suggest that by 2027, the industry will grow to $8.73 million, highlighting its increasing significance within the national economy.

The Vietnam Esports White Paper also underscores the country’s rising status in the regional and global esports arena. Vietnam successfully hosted esports events at two consecutive SEA Games -SEA Games 31 in May 2022 and SEA Games 32 in May 2023. These events showcased Vietnam’s organizational capabilities and commitment to developing the industry further.

Vietnamese teams have also achieved remarkable success in various international competitions. At SEA Games 31, Vietnam emerged as the top-performing country in esports, and at SEA Games 32, it ranked fourth. Other significant victories include championship titles at the Global Esports Games 2022 for PUBG Mobile, the Arena of Valor International Championship (AIC) 2022, and the FIFAe Continental Cup 2022.
