Vietnam finished second out of 60 countries and territories at the 18th World Pencak Silat Championship, which concluded in Singapore on December 17.

The team brought home six gold medals, three silvers and four bronzes.

The gold medallists were Tran Thi Them in the women’s 55kg, Hoang Thi Loan Huy in the women’s 60kg, Quang Thi Thu Nghia in the women’s 75kg and Pham Van Ty Huy in the men’s 80kg. 

Nguyen Duy Tuyen took gold in the men’s 85kg after beating Muhammad Syakir Bin Jeffery of Singapore and Le Van Toan defeated Kistian Pamungkas of Indonesia to bag a gold medal in the men’s over 85kg.

The host nation Singapore triumphed in the event with seven gold medals.

More than 300 athletes from at least 40 countries competed in the four-day tournament, which was organised by Singapore Silat Federation and Aladdin Street Singapore. 

This is the third time Singapore has hosted the Championship.
