Previously Vietnam, AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 champions, were scheduled to face the RoK, who won the EAFF Football Championship in 2017, in a friendly match on March 26, 2019.

This was agreed following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) and the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) on December 15, 2018.

However, the date currently coincides with the AFC U23 Asian Championship 2020 qualifying round schedule. With a number of Vietnam’s senior squad also playing for the nation’s U23 team, the VFF requested that the AFF cancel the match.

In response, the Korea Football Association (KFA) have asked for the friendly match to be moved to another date in 2019. The RoK national side currently have a full set of friendly fixtures organised for June, with team getting preparations underway the for World Cup 2020 qualifiers in Qatar from September.

The KFA recently announced they will play the Colombian national team instead of Vietnam in a friendly match on March 26.
