VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam has become a party to the newly-signed charter to establish a Public Interest Group (GIP) of the European Consortium for Asian Field Study (ECAF).

The outcome followed a five-day working visit to France by a delegation from the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) led by its Vice President Nguyen Quang Thuan.

The charter, which was inked at the ECAG General Assembly in Paris on June 3, aimed to activate further cooperation in the research and teaching of social sciences, especially in the areas of linguistics, culture, history, archaeology and religion.

Parties to the charter agreed to provide field approaches and frameworks in Asia for common benefits, develop joint programmes on Asia research managed by each party, make full use of the existing research centres by forming a network and sharing studying documents and costs as well as promoting Europe-Asia cooperation dialogue among the two regions’ research communities.

On this occasion, a cooperation agreement between the VASS and the École Pratiquedes Hautes Études, a leading institute for higher education and research, was signed, paving the way for further cooperation in teaching and researching issues relating to culture, Sino-Vietnamese and archaeology.

In addition, the two sides plan to ink another deal for cooperation in new majors which are expected to yield fruitful results.

According to Thuan, his academy is one of founders of ECAF on the basis of the traditional and close ties with the French Academy of the Far East. Vietnam plays a crucial role and is an active member in carrying out projects and research activities at home as well as in other Asian countries.
