On November 4, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a global higher education analytics firm, announced its Asia University Rankings for 2026. This year, Vietnam saw a notable leap in representation with 25 institutions making the list.

The newly included universities are Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), Foreign Trade University, Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, Phenikaa University, Thuy Loi University, University of Commerce, and Banking Academy.

The highest-ranked Vietnamese university is Vietnam National University, Hanoi, at position 158, up from last year. It is followed by Duy Tan University, ranked 165, a drop of 38 places. Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, secured 175th place, rounding out the country’s representation in the top 200.

Regionally, China dominates the top 10 of the QS Asia rankings with eight institutions, including the University of Hong Kong (ranked 1st), Peking University (2nd), Fudan University (5th), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (6th), City University of Hong Kong (7th), Chinese University of Hong Kong (8th), Tsinghua University (9th), and Hong Kong Polytechnic University (10th).

Singapore is also well-represented, with Nanyang Technological University ranked 3rd and the National University of Singapore ranked 4th.

The QS Asia University Rankings 2026 evaluated more than 1,500 institutions across 29 countries and territories. Assessment criteria included academic reputation, research citations per paper, faculty-to-student ratio, international research network, and internationalization indicators. The weighting for each metric ranged from 5% to 30%, with academic reputation carrying the highest weight.
