Six out of a total of 12 representatives came from Southeast Asia, and Vietnam topped the list with football fans accounting for 75% of the country’s population.
Elsewhere, Indonesia ranked third with 69%, whilst regional rivals Thailand and Malaysia were placed fifth and seventh with 58% and 53%, respectively.
The top 5 in Asia also included the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with 70% and Saudi Arabia with 65%.
Vietnamese football has shown plenty of progress over recent years under the guidance of head coach Park Hang-seo of the Republic of Korea. The senior men’s team twice won gold at the SEA Games, secured the 2018 AFF Cup trophy, and finished runners-up at the 2018 AFC U23 Championship. They also progressed to the third qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup for the first time.
Through these historic achievements, Vietnamese people's love and passion for football have been growing, impressing international friends.
The 2022 AFF Cup is set to get underway from December 23 to January 1, 2023, with the tournament expected to see great enthusiasm shown by regional fans, including those from Vietnam.
