Ilya Glazunov was born in 1930. He is one of the most prominent painters of the 20th century of Russia. Glazunov is the founder and principal of the Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after him. He is an academician of the Russian Academy of Arts. Glazunov was awarded the Picasso Gold Medal for his contribution to world culture by the UNESCO.

In 2004, the Glazunov National Gallery opened in downtown Moscow. The Gallery showcases his artworks, including paintings of Vietnam during the war of resistance against the US.
