In Vietnam, 67% of foreign employees surveyed said their disposable income increased and 68% said they could save more money.


Vietnam is considered the most attractive destination in Asia for foreign workers who wish to improve their personal financial situation, HSBC’s Expat Explorer survey pointed out.

In other areas, the countries that provide the largest opportunity to improve financial situation for foreign workers are Qatar, the Czech Republic and Mexico. The HSBC survey was conducted with the participation of 22,000 foreign workers globally.

According to the survey, on a global scale, the Middle East is the region bringing the best financial improvement for foreign workers.

Approximately 76% of foreigners living and working in Qatar said their disposable income increased and 75% said they could save more money.

Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have respective rates of 68% and 65% of foreign employees who earned higher disposable incomes than at home.

The Middle East is also the region with the world’s second highest rate of foreign workers earning annual incomes of over $200,000, reaching 16%. The rate is the highest in the Asia-Pacific, reaching 19%.

In Asia, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore are the top destinations where foreigners can save more money and have higher disposable incomes.

In the Americas, Mexico is the most attractive country for foreign workers. Up to 63% of foreign workers in the country could save more money and 57% said their disposable income is better.

In Europe, the Czech Republic and Switzerland are the two destinations where foreign workers can improve personal finances the best, with 60% of foreign workers in the two countries saying they could save more money.

On the global level, the country where foreign workers are the highest paid is Switzerland, with $181,000/year on average, compared to the global average of $104,000/year. In addition, 65% of foreign workers in Switzerland also have a higher disposable income.
