Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith affirmed that support provided by the State Commission for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (COVA) for the Liaison Committee for Overseas Laotians, over the last five years, has helped deepen the Vietnam-Laos relationship.

During his March 22 reception for Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister and COVA Chairman Vu Hong Nam, who is on a working visit to Laos from March 22-23, the Lao official said he hopes for closer links between the two agencies in implementing the two States’ policy for their overseas nationals.

The Vietnamese guest briefed the host of outcomes of the working session between the two committees, saying that the two sides effectively cooperated in the period.

In the future, they will continue to boost connections, especially in exchanges of experience and information, and in training personnel, he stressed.

Previously, Deputy Foreign Minister Nam held talks with his Lao counterpart Khamphau Onthavan, during which they looked back at the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two committees on cooperation and experience exchange between in 2011-2015, and discussed future cooperation orientations.

The officials agreed on the extension of the MoU in the next five years, focusing on sharing information on the world situation or events relating to their countries’ overseas residents, and supporting each other in communication work.

The two sides will jointly prevent and struggle against hostile elements which might sabotage either nation.

They agreed to create favourable conditions for each other in rolling out plans on the exchange of information, experience, experts and working delegations.

The Vietnamese side committed to providing an annual training course for staff from the Liaison Committee for Overseas Laotians, in either Laos or Vietnam.

Congratulations on Lao Party’s 61st anniversary

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) sent a congratulatory letter to the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) on the occasion of its 61st founding anniversary on March 22.

The letter said over the past 61 years, under the sound leadership of the LPRP, the Lao people have overcome a lot of difficulties and challenges to achieve glorious victories during their national liberation, reconstruction and safeguarding.

Notably, after 30 years of implementing the renewal policy initiated by the Party, the country has made great achievements in all fields, with its prestige and position in the international arena increasingly improved.

The CPV Central Committee affirmed in its letter that the Vietnamese Party, State and people always support the Lao Party and believes that under its leadership, the Lao people will reap bigger rewards during the continued renewal process and in implementing the 10th National Party Congress resolution, and the 8th five-year socio-economic development plan, thus contributing to building a socialist-oriented Laos of peace, independence, democracy and prosperity.

On the same day, Hoang Binh Quan, member of the Party Central Committee and head of its Commission for External Affairs, sent a message of congratulations to his Lao counterpart Sunthone Sayachak.
