Vietnam and Lebanon should consider expanding their cooperation in trade, finance-banking, tourism and labour, while supporting each other at international organisations and forums, the ambassador told Lebanese Prime Minister Tamman Salam on September 28.

Briefing the PM on the outcomes of the Vietnam-Lebanon economic seminar on September 27, the diplomat noted his hope that the two countries will work to tap their cooperation potential, particularly in economy and labour, via high-level delegation exchanges, economic, cultural and artistic exhibitions, and meetings between their businesses.

For his part, PM Tamman Salam said he hopes that the time-honoured relationship will thrive during the ambassador’s tenure.

The host expressed his admiration for achievements Vietnam has gained in the fields of economy, social affairs, foreign relations, agriculture and education, voicing his hope that the country will score more attainments in the reform process, as well as in industrialisation and modernisation.

The leader displayed his wish to soon pay an official visit to Vietnam in order to introduce Lebanon’s socio-economic landscape as well as its new policies to the country.

During his stay in Lebanon from September 26-30, Ambassador Long had meetings with Minister of Economy and Trade Alain Hakim, Deputy Minister of Labour Geoger Aydo and Ambassador in charge of international organisations under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Atif Ayyub.

The two sides compared notes on measures to boost the long-standing friendship and cooperation for mutual development, especially in economy, trade and investment promotion and labour.

He called for Lebanon’s support for Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau’s bid to assume the post of UNESCO General Director for 2017-2021.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt and Lebanon and Vietnam’s Honorary Consul in Lebanon jointly held a banquet to mark the 71st anniversary of August Revolution and National Day on September 29.

On September 27, the embassy in conjunction with the Honorary Consul and the Lebanese Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture organised an economic seminar highlighting Vietnam’s business potential and opportunities.
