MIC cited statistics by Cable, a leading price comparison site, saying that Vietnam’s mobile data service fees in 2023 were among the 21st lowest levels among 237 countries or territories. It was sixth in Asia and fourth in ASEAN.

The statistics from i-Speed and Speedtest (Ookla) show that, except for cases of submarine fiber optic cable breakdown, Vietnam’s broadband internet quality is stable and can satisfy many activities, including downloading, uploading, video streaming, social networks and music.
MIC in November 2022 adjusted the service quality standards for fixed broadband internet access. Under the new regulation, the minimum speed must be 50 Mbps. The ministry is also considering setting up a minimum speed for mobile broadband internet access service.
MIC reported that under the plan on expanding telecom signals to remote areas, it is providing public telecommunications services until 2025. The goal is to provide 100 percent of hamlets, villages and islands in extremely difficult areas with terrestrial mobile telecommunications services.
At a conference on national information and communications infrastructure development planning in 2021-2030, the Institute of Information and Communications Policy cited recent achievements gained by Vietnam in developing telecommunications infrastructure.
As a developing country with lower-middle income, Vietnam has 4G coverage higher than some developed countries with high income (99.8 percent vs 99.4 percent). The country’s smartphone use proportion is 84 percent, and fiber cable coverage to homes is 80 percent (the average level in the world is 60 percent).
Data charges in Vietnam have been maintained at low levels, just half of the world’s average level. Thanks to reasonable costs, all Vietnamese have opportunities to access the internet and digital space.
It is expected that by 2025, 90 percent of users will have access to fixed internet at an average speed of 200 Mbps.
