Vietnam Airlines plans to further increase flights during holidays

Vietnam Airlines has announced plans to address the supply problem in the aviation industry by increasing the number of night flights.

The airline intends to operate an additional 2,000 flights after 9pm daily on its routes to meet travel demand during the April 30 - May 1 holiday and the summer peak period.

The decision to increase night flights is driven by the shortage of aircraft in the aviation industry. By offering more choices and increasing flight capacity, Vietnam Airlines aims to accommodate the needs of passengers during this busy period.

The routes that will benefit from the additional flights include those between Hà Nội, HCM City, Đà Nẵng, Nha Trang and Quy Nhơn.

Vietnam Airlines has observed high occupancy rates on many tourist routes, with an index ranging from 70 per cent to 90 per cent during the first two days of the holiday (April 27-28). Some popular routes, such as Hà Nội – Huế, Chu Lai, Quy Nhơn, Đồng Hới and Nha Trang, as well as HCM City - Phú Quốc, Tuy Hòa, Đồng Hới, Đà Lạt and Vân Đồn, have already surpassed the halfway mark in terms of seat occupancy.

It is expected that the demand for flights from Hà Nội to Đà Nẵng and Phú Quốc will continue to increase significantly in the week leading up to the holiday.

Hot weather affects durian crops in Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu Province.

Hot weather in recent weeks has had a negative impact on durian crops in Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu Province.

The province has more than 1,300 hectares of durian, with the main durian varieties including Ri6 and Thai, along with an average yield of six to eight tonnes per ha, and an estimated output of about 4,937 tonnes.

According to farmers, durian is a weather-sensitive crop. In prolonged hot and dry conditions, durian trees often burn the tips of their leaves, affecting the tree's ability to photosynthesize and synthesize nutrients.

In particular, intense sunlight for many months has caused heat shock in the trees, leading to premature fruit loss, risking a loss of this year's durian crop.

Nguyễn Hải Nam, a farmer living in Tân Lập Hamlet, Sơn Bình Commune, Châu Đức District, has nearly two hectares of Ri6 durian and Thai durian.

He said that in recent days, hot weather has caused his family's durian garden to continuously lose young fruit, with a current rate of more than 30 per cent falling, and the young fruit on the tree is still continuing to fall, making him very worried.

“The weather is hot, so the durian tree suffers from heat shock, causing many young fruits to fall. If last year my garden harvested more than three tonnes, this year it would be reduced by 30-40 per cent compared to last year," Nam said.

According to durian growers in Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu, the durians currently bearing fruit will be harvested around May.

Faced with this situation, the agricultural sector of the province has recommended that farmers in the province should fully water their durian trees and use mist irrigation and distributed irrigation methods to save irrigation water.

Farmers should water durian trees in the early morning or late afternoon, and avoid watering at noon.

In addition, farmers should use available organic materials such as straw, dry branches and leaves, and plant residue to cover and retain moisture around the base as well as the entire garden to limit water evaporation and maintain soil moisture.

In addition to domestic tourists, the programme will target visitors from key international markets such as South Korea, China, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, Southeast Asia, India, the US and Europe.

Quang Nam has set a goal to serve 7.60 million tourists this year. The figure reached 7.40 million last year, including 3.80 million foreign visitors.

The two governments will accompany businesses to encourage and facilitate bilateral cooperation and investment projects, especially in the realms of oil and gas, agriculture, telecommunications and construction.

On global and regional issues of mutual interest, they shared the view that differences should be resolved through peaceful means in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.

Later, they witnessed the signing of five cooperation documents, including an action plan to deploy cooperation between the two agriculture ministries for the 2024 – 2030 period, and Memoranda of Understanding and letters of intent in the fields of oil and gas, petrochemical refining, telecommunications, and construction material production.

Ca Mau suspends forest walking event due to fire risk

Authorities in the southernmost province of Ca Mau have decided to suspend a walking competition through the U Minh Ha National Park due to the fear of forest fires.

More than 37,500 hectares of forest in U Minh Ha National Park are suffering from drought, including 23,100 hectares at highest risk of forest fires.

The five-kilometre walk is among six sports events due to be held at the U Minh Ha National Park during the coming Southern Liberation Day (April 30) and May Day holiday.

U Minh Ha National Park announced the various sports and cultural events to celebrate the liberation of the south, including the 500-metre and 2.5-kilometre runs, the five-kilometre walk, the 800-metre boat race, fairs and exhibitions featuring local culture and specialities on April 11.

According to local authorities, the park was currently at extreme risk of forest fires due to prolonged droughts, so they decided to suspend the walk event to ensure safety.

"More than 37,500 hectares of forest are suffering from drought, including 23,100 hectares at highest risk of forest fires," local authorities said.

A fire recently burnt down over 40 hectares of forest in the Tran Van Thoi District on April 10, the largest fire reported for over a decade in the province.

Airlines increase Dien Bien flight frequency

The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and low-cost carrier Vietjet Air have increased the frequency of their Hanoi and HCM City-Dien Bien routes to serve rising travel demand as the northwestern province is organising grand celebrations for the 70th Dien Bien Phu Victory anniversary (May 7, 1954).

On May 7, 1954, the flag of the Vietnamese army was raised on the top of the command tunnel of French General De Castries. All the French troops were captured.

President Ho Chi Minh said that the Dien Bien Phu Victory was a golden milestone in history that directly led to the signing of the Geneva Accords on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina. It also created the foundation and conditions for the Vietnamese people to secure victory in the resistance war against the US, liberate the South, and reunify the country in 1975.

Vietnam among top domestic infrastructure investors: Ambassador

Vietnam is one of the leading countries in Asia in terms of investment for infrastructure development, allocating 5.7% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to projects in this field, said Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN).

Addressing a high-level debate on promoting sustainable development through infrastructure connectivity as part of a ‘Sustainability Week’ held by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on April 18, Giang emphasised that building a modern and harmonious infrastructure system is one of the three strategic breakthroughs identified by the Vietnamese government for sustainable development.

So far, Vietnam has put into operation 1,729 km of expressways and aims to lift the total to 3,000 km by 2025, he said, adding that Vietnam continues it is continuing to develop infrastructure connectivity with neighbouring countries, including Laos, thus promoting regional and inter-regional connectivity.

The Vietnamese Government continues to prioritise the development of sustainable infrastructure through investment in renewable energy, and green transportation systems, as well as promoting the production and use of electric public vehicles, he noted.

The diplomat thanked official development assistance (ODA) partners for their timely and effective support for Vietnam's infrastructure development projects.

He affirmed promoting connectivity between and within countries is essential for economic development, job creation, ensuring supply chain efficiency, and enhancing sustainability.

The diplomat proposed the enhancement of international cooperation and solidarity through financial and technical support to narrow the infrastructure development gap, particularly with developing countries.

Countries need to enhance the resilience of their infrastructure systems by investing in renewable energy, green transportation technology, and digital infrastructure, with institutional and financial contributions by both public and private sectors, he said.

Global efforts towards infrastructure connectivity should closely link with regional and national initiatives, he continued, taking the example of the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and facilitating seamless support throughout the lifecycle of infrastructure projects in the region.

UNGA President Dennis Francis highlighted the importance of infrastructure development strategy in achieving all sustainable development goals, while emphasising the need to enhance financial support and investment in high-quality, reliable, and sustainable infrastructure.

Participants also shared experience and challenges in narrowing the gap in infrastructure development and connectivity, and discussed how to promote partnership, solidarity, and innovation for sustainable infrastructure development.

The 'Sustainable Week', held from April 15 -19, is an initiative of the President of the 78th Session of the UNGA to convene a series of high-level meetings of the UNGA to discuss topics related to sustainable development, contributing to mobilising political will to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development./.

“Bến Tre strives to soon become one of the tourist hubs of the Mekong Delta, making contributions to the region’s tourism value chain.”

Bùi Thị Ngọc Hiếu, deputy director of the HCM City Department of Tourism, said the five key areas of the programme are exchanging information for tourism management, co-operation to develop tourism products, tourism promotion and facilitation, workforce development, and investment facilitation.

The delta localities are working together this year on some key activities such as building a programme to develop tourism products that link them, organising events for competent tourist guides to share experiences and a competition for innovative tourism startups in Kiên Giang Province.

Assoc Prof Dr Phạm Trung Lương, a former deputy rector of the Vietnam Tourism Development Research Institute, said tourism is inter-regional, and regions would struggle if they do not link up and work with others.

Linking and developing tourism among provinces is crucial to utilising each other’s strengths, enhancing the delta’s competitiveness, and minimising overlapping, which is especially important since otherwise tourists would only visit one or two areas in the region, he said.

Representatives of other Mekong Delta provinces at the forum said they are committed to facilitating tourism linkages and creating favourable conditions for developing unique local tourism products, and called for stronger co-operation and assistance within the region.

A poll on attractive destinations in HCM City and 13 Mekong Delta localities was also launched at the event.

Tourism destinations can sign up for the voting, organised by their tourism departments and Tuổi Trẻ newspaper.

The results, based on votes cast on the newspaper’s website and an assessment by the programme’s council of experts, will be announced at the end of the year.

At the forum, businesses and organisations promoted Bến Tre’s OCOP products and tourism models, including its iconic coconuts, and networked with visitors and potential partners.

On April 16 around 40 tourism businesses in HCM City surveyed noteworthy tourism destinations in Bến Tre.

This was the third time the forum was held after being held in 2019 in HCM City and 2022 in Đồng Tháp Province.

The delta is identified as one of the seven main tourist regions of the country.

It is rich in resources, canals, eco-systems, and unique cultural values, giving the place great potential to become an important resort destination in the south.

In 2023 Bến Tre received over 2.2 million tourists, a 72 per cent increase from the previous year.

Tourism revenues topped VNĐ2.7 trillion, a 77.3 per cent rise.

Ecopark City Trail offers race-cation experience for runners

As many as 3,800 runners will take part in the Ecopark City Trail 2024 which will be held on April 20-21 in Hưng Yên Province.

Organisers have designed special routes to celebrate the tournament's fifth edition.

Instead of usual distances of 5-10-21-42km, runners will challenge themselves in 6-11-21-31km races in which the longest one will be a combination between road and trail running for the first time.

The organisers said that the interesting changes should give runners new and fresh experiences in the familiar but stunning scenery of Ecopark, the greenest urban area in the North, just 15km away from Hà Nội City centre.

Previously known as the Ecopark Marathon, the race has been renamed Ecopark City Trail this season.

According to organisers, it is held as a race-cation, the new way to exercise and travel. Participants will not simply be running but also get the amazing opportunity to see, discover and enjoy many activities such as team building, connecting with family, friends, companies, and groups. This is a race to chill and enjoy the beauty of nature.

The Ecopark City Trail is a good way to keep runners on track with their personal fitness while on vacation. Running, especially outdoors, is a great way to get exercise.

In addition to VNĐ350 million in cash and gifts for the top athletes, organisers will hold lucky draws for all participants including runners, crew and volunteers.

Nguyễn Văn Lai and Phạm Thị Huệ won the men's and women's 21km categories last year, Đào Minh Chí and Trần Thị Duyên championed the 10km events, while Đào Minh Thiện and Bùi Thị Thu Hà took the 5km titles.
