“Vietnam land on Nine Dynasty Urns” exhibition held
An exhibition named “The Vietnam land shown on the Nine Dynasty Urns” was held at the Hue Imperial Citadel (Dai Noi) in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on June 16.
At the event, 32 photos with captions of the sea, rivers and mountains across all regions of Vietnam which were carved on the Nine Dynasty Urns (Cuu Dinh in Vietnamese language) were on display.
The bronze urns were cast in late 1835 and completed in early 1837 under the reign of King Minh Mang. They represent the unity and beauty of the country, as well as the aspiration for immortal existence of the Nguyen Dynasty, according to director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre Hoang Viet Trung.
The urns, which remain intact, have been positioned in the yard of the citadel’s The To Mieu (To Mieu Temple), a place to worship the kings of the Nguyen Dynasty, since the date they were completed.
The highest urn is 2.5 metres high while the shortest at 2.3 metres high. Each weighs up to 2,600 kg and has a name symbolising an emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty.
Each urn was carved with 17 patterns featuring plants, animals, landscapes and places of Vietnam.
The nine urns were recognised as national treasure in 2012. The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre has also been taking steps to seek UNESCO recognition of them as a world documentary heritage.

VUFO's insignias presented to US friends
The “For peace and friendship among nations” insignias, the most noble award of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), have been conferred upon three US friends for their contributions to preventing the US war in Vietnam, addressing the consequences of the war, reconciling and promoting the Vietnam-US people-to-people exchanges.
The awardees include Ron Carver, a social activist for peace and a scholar who participated in demonstrations demanding an end to the American war in Vietnam; and Ronald Haeberle, a war correspondent and photographer who took more than 60 photos of the bloody massacre in My Lai on March 16, 1968, helping bring the case to justice and the world public opinion and create the premise for a series of movements against the war.
The last one is Daniel Ellsberg, a political activist, senior expert, and military analyst, who helped people in the US and the world understand more about the cruelty of the senseless war. He was unable to attend the ceremony due to health issues, so his daughter, Professor Mary Ellsberg, received the insignia for her dad.
Presenting the insignias to the US friends at a ceremony in Washington D.C. on June 16, VUFO Vice President and General Secretary Phan Anh Son hailed their quiet but effective and valuable contributions to the Vietnamese people.
Son noted that after the war, the three men and many other US citizens have carried out various humanitarian projects in Vietnam, effectively supporting Vietnamese living in areas affected by the war and natural disasters.
Such acts have made important contributions to enhancing mutual understanding and strengthening the friendship between the two countries, he affirmed.

Carver and Haeberle expressed their honour to receive the insignias, saying that their participation in activities against the war 50 years ago and their time in Vietnam to help overcome the war aftermath are very important to them.
Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung said the insignias are even more meaningful because they are given on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Paris Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam (Paris Peace Accords) (1973-2023) as well as the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership (2013-2023).

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh cut the ribbon to inaugurate Nhu Nguyet bridge 2 and attended a groundbreaking ceremony of a social housing project for workers in the northern province of Bac Giang on June 16.
Construction of the bridge started in April 2022 at a total cost of over 456 billion VND (19.8 million USD) sourced from the provincial budget. The bridge has a total length of about 445m and a width of 16m, with two approach road sections stretching 800m. It lies on Hanoi - Bac Giang expressway, crossing Cau river.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, PM Chinh said the bridge will help promote socio-economic development in the northeastern region in general and Bac Giang in particular, as it serves as a gateway to the province.
He expressed his hope that after the bridge was inaugurated, people will travel more conveniently, contributing to realising the Politburo’s resolution on the development of the Red River Delta.
In the afternoon of the same day, the PM attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a second-phase social housing project for workers in Nenh town in Viet Yen district of Bac Giang province.
The project, covering a total area of up to 12.6ha, consists of 16 20-storey apartment buildings and is estimated to cost nearly 5 trillion VND (212.5 million USD). It is expected to provide round 7,000 apartments for over 20,000 workers in the province.
In the first stage, 2,500 apartments will be delivered by the end of March 2024. Meanwhile in the second stage, more than 1,500 apartments will be built and handed over in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, PM Chinh asked Bac Giang and localities to continue allocating resources and land for social housing development projects.
Financial institutions, particularly the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies must create favourable conditions for low-income individuals and workers in industrial zones to access capital and purchase or rent social housing.
On the occasion, he called on departments, localities and businesses to join hands and fulfill the goal of building at least 1 million social housing units for low-income individuals and workers in industrial zones by 2030.

Quang Nam targets sustainable tourism at My Son Sanctuary
The locality will also step up the application of scientific-technological advances in the conservation work, and continue strictly enforcing regulations on state management, as well as the World Heritage Convention and the Cultural Heritage Law.
Phan Ho, Director of the Management Board of My Son World Cultural Heritage Site, said since the sanctuary won the UNESCO recognition in 1999, many organisations and individuals, both at home and abroad, have joined hands in the preservation. Among them there are the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), JICA (Japan), Lerici Foundation (Italy), the University of Milan, and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Apart from the existing tourism products at the tower-temples, the province will develop new ones in the buffer and core areas this year, including culture-heritage and eco-tourism products in a 1,158ha forest, he added.
The connectivity between the sanctuary and other heritage sites in the central region and major tourism hubs will also be strengthened, Ho said, adding that the management board will improve personnel quality, especially tour guides, and diversify services at the sanctuary.
Once the religious and political capital of the Champa Kingdom, My Son Sanctuary is located in a hilly landscape in Duy Phu commune, Duy Xuyen district, about 70 km southwest of central Da Nang city and 40 km from Hoi An city.
It comprises eight groups of 71 monuments built throughout the 7th to 13th century. Having their spiritual origin from Hinduism of the Indian sub-continent, My Son temples were built to worship the Hindu divinities such as Krishna and Vishnu, but above all Shiva.
The first construction of My Son dated back to the 4th century under the reign of Bhadravarman for the worship of God Shiva-Bhadresvara. But later on, the temple was destroyed.
At the beginning of the 7th century, King Sambhuvarman had it rebuilt. Each new monarch came to My Son after his accession to the throne for the ceremony of purification and to present offerings and erect new monuments, which explains why My Son was the only place where Cham art flourished without interruption from the 7th to 13th century.
According to the UNESCO, conservation of the My Son monuments began in the early part of the 20th century soon after their discovery in modern times by French archaeologists. As a result of wars, many tower-temples were damaged. However, preservation work has been carried out and the remaining tower-temples have been maintained and are well-preserved.
A high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly of Côte d'Ivoire led by its President Adama Bictogo left Hanoi on June 16, successfully concluding their four-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
This was the highest-level delegation and Bictogo was the first President of the Côte d’Ivoire NA to have visit Vietnam in 48 years.
While in Vietnam, Bictogo laid a wreath at the Monument to Heroic Martyrs; visited President Ho Chi Minh’s stilt house in the Presidential Palace; paid a courtesy call to President Vo Van Thuong; met with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; attended an official welcome ceremony and held talks with NA Chairman Hue, and joined an official banquet.
At the meetings, Bictogo suggested the two legislatures play a motivating role in further leveraging advantages in various sectors such as agriculture. Vietnamese enterprises could establish cashew processing factories in Côte d'Ivoire while all possible support will be offered to Vietnamese experts to train workforce in rice cultivation and mechanisation in the African country. He also mentioned the possibility of Côte d'Ivoire's import of mechanical products from Vietnam.
He called for Vietnam’s assistance in vocational training for young people of Côte d'Ivoire, particularly in the fields of computer science, mechanics, and electronics, adding that both sides should facilitate convenient travel between the two countries via establishing direct flight routes.
Agreeing with Bictogo’s proposal, Hue affirmed that Vietnam is ready to serve as a bridge for Côte d'Ivoire’s goods to penetrate the ASEAN and Asian markets, as well as work with Côte d'Ivoire to increase the import of cashew nuts, cotton, cocoa, and especially to maintain and develop cooperative value chains in cashew cultivation, processing and export. Efforts will be made to boost information exchange, trade promotion, investment, strengthen connections between associations, businesses, and diversify products for exchange.
Côte d’Ivoire should expand the imports of products of Vietnam’s strength such as seafood, fertilizers, apparel, footwear, household appliances, construction materials, electronics and machinery, he said.
Vietnam is ready to offer all possible support for Côte d’Ivoire enterprises to do business in the Southeast Asian country and vice versa, Hue said, adding that to achieve this, cooperation in the banking sector is needed.
He urged Côte d’Ivoire to promptly respond to the draft Memorandum of Understanding on economic and trade cooperation and designate responsible authorities for the bilateral trade agreement with Vietnam. He also asked for active negotiations toward the signing of cooperation documents, thus creating a legal framework for economic, trade and investment activities.
Both sides vowed to facilitate exchanges between leaders, agencies and deputies of the two parliaments to share professional experience; monitor the effective implementation of international conventions and agreements signed by the two governments; support and boost connectivity and coordination between enterprises, as well as provide all possible assistance for businesses and citizens to do business stably in each nation.

20-year implementation of Resolution on great national unity reviewed
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong chaired a meeting of the Politburo and the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat in Hanoi on June 16 to gather opinions on the scheme reviewing the 20-year implementation of the Resolution on promoting the strength of great national unity for a society of wealthy people, strong country, democracy, justice and civilisation.
They shared the view that over the past two decades, the strength of great national unity has been consolidated, strengthened and promoted, contributing to socio-economic development, ensuring national defence-security, external relations, and improving the material and spiritual lives of the people. The gaps between regions and areas have been gradually narrowed. Due attention has been given to the development of mountainous, island, ethnic and disadvantaged areas. Political stability, society consensus and public trust in the Party and State have been reinforced.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), socio-political and mass organisations have continued renewing their methods of operation, encouraged the people to join in patriotic emulation movements to contribute to national building and safeguarding. Special attention has been paid to the building and rectification of the Party and political system, ensuring that the Party truly serves as a core leadership of the great national unity bloc.
However, there remain shortcomings related to the enforcement of the Party guidelines, State laws and policies on socio-economic development, the upholding of great national unity in several areas, development gaps among regions and areas, social oversight and criticism activities. The VFF, socio-political and mass organisations have yet to uphold their sense of responsibility for mobilising, uniting, representing the legitimate rights and interests of the people.
In conclusion, the Politburo underlined that great national unity is a valuable tradition, a strategic guideline of the Party, and a decisive factor for every success in the cause of national construction and defence.
They affirmed to place the legitimate interests and public satisfaction at the centre, ensure fairness and equality for every citizen in accessing resources and opportunities for development.
The Politburo assigned the Steering Committee for the scheme to acquire the Politburo and relevant agencies’ feedback to refine the report and submit it to the Party Central Committee at its eighth plenum in October.
Ca Mau works hard against IUU fishing
The Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau reported no fishing boats and fishermen violating foreign waters in the first five months of 2023.
This is attributed to the local authorities' application of various measures against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, in a joint effort to get the European Commission (EC)'s 'yellow card' warning against Vietnamese seafood exports removed.
However, there still remains a risk of illegal fishing activities in foreign waters as many local fishing ships have been discovered engaging in removing and concealing their vessel monitoring systems (VMS).
Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Huynh Quoc Viet has ordered departments, sectors and localities to effectively perform the fight against IUU fishing, focusing on promoting information and communication campaigns to popularise relevant legal regulations and strictly handle illegal fishing cases in foreign waters.
Colonel Phung Duc Hung, Commander of the provincial Border Guard Command, said the force continues to maintain and enhance the effectiveness of the communication system, update fishing vessel data in the National Fisheries Database (VNFishbase), and monitor fishing vessels entering and exiting sea border stations.
They have collaborated with other law enforcement forces at sea and local authorities to strictly monitor and control offshore fishing vessels, and strengthen patrol activities, he said.
Ca Mau has over 4,100 fishing boats, including 1,500 with a length of 15 metres and above. Over the last 180-day peak period, units of the provincial Border Guard inspected more than 40,000 fishing boats entering and leaving seaports in the locality.
Nearly 4,000 local fishermen were provided with legal knowledge, and some 2,000 ship owners and captains urged to sign commitments to strictly adhere to the regulations regarding the fight against IUU fishing.
Vietnamese folk music featured at Netherlands’ Oerol Festival
The Veenfabrik Theater successfully staged and performed a modern-style play called "Wereld van Wie?" (World of Whom), a creative blend of simple yet profound philosophical dialogues intertwined with Vietnamese music rich in folk elements, at Oerol Festival on Terschelling island in Friesland province of the Netherlands last weekend.
The play tells the story of Phi Nguyen, a boy born in the ancient capital of Hue, who migrated to the Netherlands at the age of 3 and grew up with ups and downs of life.
The theater invited composer Ngo Hong Quang, who graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague a few years ago, to participate as a performing musician on the monochord, fiddle, and mouth organ, as well as to serve as a consultant on Vietnamese customs and traditions, and teach the other actors to sing "Ly Cay Da" in Vietnamese.
During this occasion, the theater troupe served nearly 10,000 people. Many of them affirmed that after watching the play, they felt a closer connection with Vietnam.
The Oerol Festival has been held annually for over 40 years, attracting nearly 50,000 spectators each occasion, which is ten times of the island's population. This year, the festival is taking place from June 9-18, featuring 40 art troupes from the European country.
Red River Delta region must improve education quality
As per the Ministry of Education and Training, the Red River Delta region must pay attention to the improvement of education quality.
The Ministry of Education and Training held a conference to develop education and training in the Red River Delta region to 2030, with a vision to 2045 in the Northern Province of Nam Dinh yesterday.
The conference was held to implement the Politburo’s Resolution No. 30-NQ/TW dated November 23, 2022 on socio-economic development and assurance of national defense and security in the Red River Delta until 2030, with a vision to 2045.
The Red River Delta consists of 2 cities under the Central Government, Hanoi, Hai Phong and 9 provinces including Quang Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, and Ninh Binh. The region leads the country in terms of education quality, most clearly shown by the results of the high school graduation exam and the results of the national exam for excellent students which is always in the country’s top ten.
However, education in the Red River Delta is also facing many difficulties. The rapid economic development, urbanization, and rapid population growth in the country have made some sectors including education less further developing despite the government’s attention.
Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that the Red River Delta’s education sector must rise to higher standards, gradually achieving international standards, especially in localities with good socio-economic development conditions such as Ha Noi, Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Hai Phong.

Book sheds light on Ho Chi Minh’s diplomatic interactions with US presidents
A book entitled "Bac Ho voi cac Tong thong My" (Uncle Ho with US Presidents) has freshly been released, giving insights into the late President's diplomatic efforts to seek and set up relations with the US since the early years of his journey to seek a way for national liberation worldwide until his last years as the leader of the Vietnamese revolution for independence.
Compiled by Associate Professor, Dr. Vo Van Loc, the eight-chapter book comprises official letters, dispatches and articles, which is divided into two parts.
The first part covers the period between 1919 and 1946, during which President Ho Chi Minh sent letters to three US Presidents - Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Harry S. Truman. The letters demonstrated the Vietnamese President’s trust, sincerity, patience, reasonableness, and his wish to establish friendly and allied relations with the US.
However, the expectations of Ho Chi Minh and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam were not realised as the US Presidents failed to get the messages that the Vietnamese leader wanted to deliver.
The second part deals with the period from 1947 to 1969 with four US presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard Nixon. During this time, the US went from indirect intervention to directly waging a war infringing on Vietnam’s territorial integrity, right to self-determination, independence, and freedom. In such circumstances, President Ho Chi Minh had to change his attitude. He continued to send letters and telegrams, among other forms, to carry out a flexible but resolute diplomatic struggle to condemn and criticise aggressive actions of the US government. At the same time, he continued expressing the goodwill and efforts of the Vietnamese Government to seek a peaceful solution, ending the war and bloodshed for both peoples.
The book has testified to a fact that President Ho Chi Minh is a genius diplomat, who founded the modern diplomacy of Vietnam.

The press urged to keep moving forwards, act as bridge between Party, State and people

The NA Chairman affirmed that over the course of 98 years of development, the Vietnam Revolutionary Press, founded and led by President Ho Chi Minh, has always accompanied the revolutionary struggles, making significant contributions to the cause of national construction and defence, affirming and elevating Vietnam's position, strength and reputation.
He expressed his profound gratitude to veteran journalists, leaders of press agencies and members of the jury board of the first Dien Hong Award - the national press award on the National Assembly and People’s Councils for carefully selecting the 67 most outstanding works out of 3,328 entries for being honored at the award ceremony on June 9, with their dedication, high sense of responsibility, fairness, objectivity and extensive experience.

The immediate and long-term urgent task is to accelerate digital transformation in the press field in line with the vision and roadmap linked to the digital economy and traditional press economy, while enhancing the application of artificial intelligence, big data, and new technologies in the field in a synchronous and effective manner, he said.
Hue noted that leaders and managers of the press system must keep improving their political mettle, sense of responsibility, and management skills. Furthermore, they should also pay even more attention to improving the quality of journalists and editors in terms of political thought, professional competence and ethics.
The NA leader believed that in the near future, the press will continue providing full and timely coverage of the activities of the NA and People's Councils at all levels for the public and international friends, promptly conveying the thoughts and aspirations of voters and people to the NA, helping to improve the operational efficiency of the NA and People's Councils and building images of the NA that is increasingly democratic, rule of law-oriented, professional, modern, friendly and close.

He also hoped that veteran journalists will continue guiding younger generations of journalists so that they will confidently and steadfastly accompany the Party, people, and the country.
