The six-day exhibition is organised by the People's Committee of Hải Phòng City in collaboration with the French-Vietnamese Academy of Architecture and the Department of Culture and Sports of HCM City.
With the theme Architectural Heritage Today, Prosperity for Tomorrow, the Hải Phòng - French Heritage photo exhibition showcases 65 sets of photos, including 570 images, vividly depicting the city in the past and present.
This meaningful event commemorates the 51st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1973-2024) and the 11th anniversary of the Việt Nam-France Strategic Partnership (2013-2024).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyễn Thị Bích Dung, director of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Hải Phòng City, said that the Hải Phòng - French Heritage photo exhibition in HCM City aims to provide more information and materials for domestic and international friends to better understand Hải Phòng's planning through various periods; its public spaces; and the conservation efforts of valuable architectural works in Hải Phòng, including French structures in the city's central area.
The authorities seek optimal solutions for the sustainable preservation and development of the city.
Founded in 1888, the port city of Hải Phòng has experienced over a century of development with numerous historical ups and downs, reflecting multiple buildings that bear the early imprints of French architecture.
Hải Phòng has evolved into a historic port city and become one of Việt Nam’s three first-class municipalities after Sài Gòn and Hà Nội.
A very important highlight that defines the city's appearance is the central urban area, which gathers many significant architectural works of great value in terms of architecture, culture, and art, showcasing the rich and diverse blend of cultures.

Hanoi pilots intelligent traffic system
Hanoi will pilot an intelligent transportation system (ITS) in the city between June and December 2024.
Under the project, the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel Group) will set up an intelligent traffic operation center at Hanoi Public Transport Management and Operations, and install intelligent equipment at two intersections on Pham Van Bach Street in Cau Giay District.
The ITS will monitor the traffic system, provide traffic information, handle violations of traffic order and safety, and manage public transport, incidents, infrastructure, parking, and payment for public transport electronic tickets.
At the Smart Traffic Operation Center, ITS provides real-time information and flexible traffic control solutions to ensure traffic order and safety, reduce travel time and costs, and minimize traffic accidents.
At the two intersections on Pham Van Bach Street, cameras will be installed to measure traffic density along the route and integrate traffic data with mapping applications. The cameras will be used to detect traffic violations and assist Hanoi Police in handling violations.
The Hanoi Department of Transport is in charge of the pilot project and will report the results to the city's People's Committee.
According to Nguyen Phi Thuong, Director of the city's Department of Transportation, developing a smart and sustainable traffic system is a trend in all urban areas around the world.
"A smart transportation system is also an important step in building a smart city. Hanoi has prioritized the development of ITS as a prerequisite for a sustainable transportation network," Thuong told The Hanoi Times.
Previously, the Hanoi Department of Transportation also piloted a vehicle overheight warning system on the Thai Ha-Chua Boc overpass starting December 1, 2022. The signs help detect, classify, and identify oversized trucks and vehicles, and display their license plate number on the electronic board as a warning.
The groundwork for applying science and technology to traffic management and operations in Hanoi was laid in 2014 when the Hanoi People's Committee tasked the city's Department of Transportation with renovating and upgrading the traffic light control center and peripherals.
According to the department, Hanoi currently has about 2,300 intersections, of which 540 are equipped with traffic lights. Of these, 474 are monitored by the control center at 54 Tran Hung Dao Street. In addition, the city has 579 CCTVs at 149 intersections to monitor traffic, punish violators, and detect non-compliant vehicles.
Intelligent transport applications in Hanoi include a bus search application, surveillance cameras to ensure bus safety and order, software to manage road traffic infrastructure systems, and electronic passes on some bus routes.

The Korea Tourism Organization joined with Vingroup, the country's largest private conglomerate, to recently sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting cultural and tourism exchanges between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK).
The MoU is expected to lay the foundation for the two sides to co-ordinate efforts in organising large-scale events imbued with Korean culture at Vinhomes’ various urban areas, as well as promoting their products and services to the wider Korean community.
Under the terms of the MoU, both sides will work together in order to intensify and organise cultural and tourism events in Vinhomes' urban areas nationwide to spread Korean culture in Vietnam.

Moreover, Vingroup will co-operate alongside the Korea Tourism Organization to develop the tourism market segment for those who are rewarded to visit the RoK.
The highlight of the partnership will therefore be the Korea Travel Festa Festival and the Summer K-Day Event which will take place on May 25 and May 26 at K-Town and VinWonders Wave Park in the Vinhomes Ocean Park 2 urban area.
Lee Hak Ju, deputy director general of the Korea Tourism Organization, said since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations in 1992, the two countries have achieved numerous co-operative achievements in multiple fields, such as politics, tourism, economics, and people-to-people exchange. Notably, the number of tourists travelling between the two countries exceeded four million visitors last year.
The signing of the MoU is therefore expected to help both sides to further promote tourism co-operation and cultural exchanges between two countries in the near future, he added.
For his part, Nguyen Viet Quang, vice chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Vingroup, stated that with the active support from the Korea Tourism Organization, Vingroup will simultaneously deploy a series of cultural events and offer outstanding services aimed at Korean customers and residents moving forward.

Given this, Quang Tri was also the target of hundreds of thousands of tonnes of bombs during wartime. Hien Luong Bridge spanning this river was a symbol of the aspiration for national reunification and also a demonstration of the spirit of connecting the values of the past, present, and future in this historical land./.

HCMC unveils labor - employment strategy for 2023-2025, with vision to 2030
The HCMC People’s Committee issued its labor-employment strategy for the 2023-2025 period, with a vision to 2030 in response to the city’s slowing labor productivity growth.
The strategy is born with the aim to increase labor performance in the city compared to the national average and to answer the need to restructure key economic sectors in strategic
This timely move, considered a sustainable and fundamental solution, is expected to have a multifaceted impact on the city's labor market, as well as the regional and national labor markets.
The strategy's "revolutionary" nature stems from the recognition that the labor market must adapt to the profound global shifts that are currently underway. As the core values and survival conditions of the economy revolve around the twin pillars of "green" and "digital," the labor market cannot remain immune to these transformations.
Vietnam's establishment of a "comprehensive strategic partnership" with major powers, particularly in the areas of microelectronics, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence, highlights the need to prioritize the training of high-quality technology manpower. Moreover, in a world where geographical boundaries are becoming increasingly blurred, the strategy emphasizes the importance of interconnectedness, diversity, and multimodality in trade, production, and distribution.
To align with the priority of developing high-tech and digital industries and becoming a leading regional service center, the city’s strategy calls for the establishment of concentrated hi-tech industrial parks and investments in strategic fields such as robotics, biotechnology, and specialized medical services. This dual approach aims to create a high-quality, skilled labor market alongside the planning and development of smart cities, satellite cities, and green cities.
HCMC focuses on forming 16 business models in nine main technology groups of Mobile internet, Cloud computing, Big data, Artificial intelligence, Fintech, IoT, Advanced robotics, Additive manufacturing, and Semiconductor technology.
The Strategy also mentions e-commerce and the needs to reskill the city workforce in the new context. Particularly, with the strong emergence of ‘commerce on social platforms’, it is urgent to update labor and business laws and regulations, as well as provide comprehensive training programs in technical skills, soft skills, and legal knowledge for both businesses and workers.
HCMC now possesses certain advantages, being a leader by ranking among the top five localities in the country for the Provincial Green Index (PGI). The Strategy highlights the urgent need for green skills associated with green jobs. Green jobs tend to require more skills and a higher level of scientific and technological expertise than traditional ones.
Via the content about green jobs, HCMC is going to expand its inter-regional links and increase the competitiveness of its economy. This depends on another strength of the city – the surplus and young workforce, with laborers from 15 years old up accounting for 50 percent of the city population. More than 87 percent of the current workforce have been trained, mostly at university level, not to mention the manpower from other countries.
To ensure sustainable employment in the context of the transition to a green economy, a circular economy, a digital economy, and a sharing economy, the city must diversify its methods of attracting investment in industries and sectors that encourage investment or new industries and models. This includes the ongoing implementation of policies to attract experts and talents to the semiconductor industry.
The strategy advocates for public-private partnership in investment, with a focus on mobilizing foreign direct investment to both generate capital flows and leverage expertise in labor training and retraining, organizational management, and market development. Particularly important is the effective linkage between universities, academies, businesses, and workers.
With those aims in mind, HCMC’s labor-employment strategy in the 2023-2025 period, with a vision to 2030, is a solution for labor productivity growth, unemployment rate decrease, living standard improvement, as well as a method to maintain the health of businesses sited here within the city's vibrant economic and social landscape.

HCM City reports highest number of dengue fever cases
Recent years has seen Ho Chi Minh City as one of the localities recording the highest number of dengue fever cases nationwide, according to Dr. Nguyen Van Vinh Chau, deputy director of the municipal Department of Health.
Dr. Chau made the statement recently at the launching ceremony of ASEAN Dengue Prevention Day.
He revealed that since the beginning of the year until now, the city recorded 3,251 cases of dengue fever, with no fatalities being reported.
These cases have appeared in a total of 22 districts, including localities with a high number of cases such as Binh Chanh, Tan Phu, and Binh Tan.
Dr. Chau pointed out that primary risk of spreading dengue fever is through the midge mosquito, a type of mosquito that lives near humans.
People are therefore advised to proactively kill larvae and mosquitoes found at their homes and workplaces, wear long-sleeved clothes, and sleep under a mosquito net to prevent the disease.
According to the Department of Preventive Medicine, there are two types of mosquitoes that tend to cause dengue fever, including Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. Female midges bite humans during the day, with the strongest bites occurring in the early morning and in the evening.
This type of mosquito transmits dengue fever by biting a person infected with the dengue virus, before then transmitting the disease to a healthy person through the bite.
In Vietnam, the disease is widespread both in urban and rural areas. Although it occurs year-round, it often breaks out into large epidemics during the rainy season, especially from July to October.
