China’s media has made intensive coverage of the official visit to the country by Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, from October 30 to November 1, and highly valued results the two sides had reached.
The People's Daily, the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on November 1 ran an article on the meeting between the Vietnamese leader and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
Noting that the two countries share broad common interests, Li said China attaches great importance to relations with Vietnam, the article said.
He reportedly said China is willing to implement the consensus the two sides have already reached, and make full use of convenient conditions such as geographical proximity and complementary industrial advantages to upgrade bilateral economic and trade cooperation and facilitate cooperation in key areas.
"China is ready to import more marketable agricultural products from Vietnam and jointly maintain the facilitation of trade with Vietnam at border ports," he was quoted by the newspaper.
The daily quoted the Vietnamese leader as saying the country stands ready to work with the Chinese side to implement their consensus, further increase mutual understanding, promote cooperation, seek common development, enhance their "comrades and brothers" relationship, and bring concrete benefits to the two countries and two peoples.
The same day, Xinhua News Agency published articles featuring the meetings between Party General Secretary Trong and Chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee Li Zhanshu and Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee Wang Yang.
Li said that China's NPC is willing to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Vietnam's National Assembly and contribute to deepening the China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in the new era, according to the article.
Trong expressed his expectation that Vietnam's NA and China's NPC will further strengthen exchanges, jointly implement the consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties, and push forward the Vietnam-China friendly cooperation of "comrades and brothers" to bear new fruits.
At the meeting with the Vietnamese Part leader, Wang noted that China received Trong's official visit to China right after the 20th National Congress of the CPC. He said this shows that China attaches great importance to the special relationship of "comrades and brothers" between China and Vietnam and cherishes the traditional friendship between the two peoples.
He said that the CPPCC is willing to work with the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) to implement the consensus reached by the top leaders of the two Parties, inherit and carry forward the traditional friendship between China and Vietnam, deepen friendly exchanges at all levels, and carry out work experience exchanges in the fields of political participation and discussion.
For his part, Trong affirmed that the VFF is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the CPPCC to unite forces from all sectors of society as well as resources from home and abroad, and promote the further development of Vietnam-China relations.
The agency highlighted the talks between Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member and permanent member of the CPV Central Committee’s Secretariat, and Cai Qi, member of the Standing Board of the CPC’s Politburo, Secretary of the CPC Central Committee’s Secretariat, and Secretary of the Beijing CPC Committee, which took place within the framework of the visit the same day.
More storms forecasted to hit Vietnam this month
Another one or two storms have been forecasted to enter the East Sea and directly affect Vietnam this month.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, at 1 pm on November 1, Storm Nalgae, the seventh storm in the East Sea this year, was some 550 kilometres from the northeast of the Paracel Islands with a wind speed of 103-133km per hour.
In the following 24-60 hours, the storm would weaken into a tropical low-pressure front in the north of the East Sea and not affect mainland Vietnam.
After this storm, the East Sea would struggle with 1-2 typhoons in November which would also strike the Vietnamese mainland.

Festival-goers given chance to paraglide over extinct volcano
For the first time, tourists attending the Chu Dang Ya Wild Sunflower – Volcano Festival will have a chance to experience paragliding.
According to the organiser, festival-goers can contemplate the breathtaking landscape created by yellow wild sunflower carpets and majestic mountains from a birds-eye view while flying together with a professional paraglider.
On November 11 and 12, the Son Tra Paragliding Club members will showcase both paragliding and paramotoring performances.
Along with paragliding, traditional sports games will be held, such as tug of war, stilt walk, and jumping in a sack. Other activities include a running race with the running track passing by famous sightseeing spots, a walking competition to conquer Chu Chu Dang Ya peak and Chu Nam peak, where participants can also enjoy the entire extinct volcano covered in yellow wild sunflowers.
The festival will also feature other cultural activities, such as the demonstration of traditional ethnic rituals, gong performances, and demonstrations of traditional crafts of local Jrai and Ba Na ethnic people.
Artisans from 14 communes and townships in the Chu Pah district will gather to show off their refined skills in bamboo and brocade weaving, wooden sculpture carving, and traditional music instrument crafting.
A demonstration of the new rice celebration, one of the most important rituals of the Jrai ethnic group, will be held on November 12. The ceremony will take place in the front yard of the rong (ethnic communal house) in La Gri village, located by the Chu Dang Ya ex-volcano.
The distinctive ethnic culture can be learnt through its gastronomy. Therefore, festival-goers can enjoy several local specialities and famous agricultural products available for sale at the communal house.
Ha Long seeks beach operator
Authorities of the northern province of Quang Ninh’s Ha Long City are seeking an operator for Hon Gai Beach.
Hon Gai Beach covers 15.52 hectares and is 900 metres long and 160 metres wide. The site includes green space and parking lots.
The beach which has a total investment of VND100 billion is now being jointly managed and operated by several agencies of the Ha Long People’s Committee.
The operator, which would be selected through the bidding, would be responsible for maintaining and repairing the beach and running services, including parking lots.
The operator would also have to arrange cleaning and lifeguards at the beach.
Hon Gai, the biggest artificial beach in Vietnam, is part of a VND680-billion project to upgrade Tran Quoc Nghia coastal road which links Ha Long and Cam Pha cities. Since being put into use last May, the beach has become a popular destination for visitors to Ha Long.
Vietnam, Denmark mark 50 years of bilateral diplomacy in Hanoi
A ceremony was held in Hanoi on November 1 to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Denmark.
Addressing the function, Danish Crown Prince Frederik expressed his elation at the growing relations between Denmark and Vietnam in various fields over the past half century.
He said large Danish businesses taking part in the visit are expected to discuss with their Vietnamese partners solutions to support the country’s sustainable development, giving fresh impetus to investment cooperation between the two countries’ business communities.
The Crown Prince shared the goals of carbon emissions reduction and energy transition, and expressed his belief Denmark will accompany Vietnam towards sustainable green growth goals.
For her part, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan noted over the past half a century of development, bilateral ties have changed from a traditional development cooperation relationship to an equal and mutually beneficial partnership, and with the establishment of their comprehensive partnership, Vietnam and Denmark have really become reliable, dynamic and effective partners.
The Vice President expressed her belief Vietnam and Denmark will continue to strengthen cooperation both bilaterally and multilaterally to jointly address challenges for a peaceful, stable, just and sustainable world and to meet the aspirations and interests of the two peoples as well as the international community.

Eight bungalows demolished in Phu Quoc protected maritime areas
Functional forces in Phu Quoc Island City in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang on Monday removed several tourist bungalows built without permission in Ham Ninh Commune.
Eight tourist bungalows built without permission in Ham Ninh Commune are removed on October 31.
The move came after an inspection by local authorities found that the illicitly-built tourist bungalows were within the Phu Quoc marine protected area.
The structures which cover 524 square metres were constructed with concrete pillars firmly planted into the ground below the water and connected to the shore via a wooden boardwalk.
The Phu Quoc marine protected area, belonging to the Phu Quoc National Park covers more than 40,000 hectares, including 7,087 hectares under strict protection.
Hanoi Ao Dai Festival to take place in early December
The Hanoi Ao Dai (traditional Vietnamese long dress) Festival 2022, is scheduled to take place at Hoan Kiem Lake walking zone from December 2-4, according to the Hanoi Department of Tourism.
The event is expected to contribute to the tourism recovery and development in the capital city, after more than two years affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as honouring the values of the traditional Ao Dai of the Vietnamese people.
Ao Dai performances will be held along Dinh Tien Hoang, Hang Khay, Trang Tien and Hang Bai Streets, in addition to an Ao Dai exhibition in the space of the Ly Thai To monument.
The festival's opening ceremony is expected to take place at 20:00 at Ba Kieu Temple, on December 2.
Ceremony honoring typical young Vietnamese families held in Hanoi
The “Typical Young Vietnamese Family” program honoring 21 couples who made great efforts to overcome difficulties to build a happy family was held in Hanoi on October 31-November 1 by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
The program aims to emphasize the important role and values of family, and the meaning of building a prosperous, happy and progressive young family contributing to the country's socioeconomic development.
This year’s program selected outstanding young families whose spouses are civil servants, officials, entrepreneurs, teachers, police officers, military officers, workers and farmers aged 35 and younger. They have not only made every effort to overcome challenges to build a happy family but also positively participated in community and social activities.
The couples will take part in a series of the program’s activities, including visiting President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, meeting leaders of the Central Committee of Vietnamese Fatherland Front and attending the honoring ceremony of the “Typical Young Vietnamese Family” program.
Singapore dance fest comes to HCM City
The DanzINC Contemporary Dance Festival from Singapore will be held for the first time in HCM City on November 3 and 4.
The festival, which was initiated by Singapore-based Odyssey Theatre (ODT) in 2004, has been held in many countries such as South Korea, Thailand, Italy, and Germany.
The event in Việt Nam, co-organised by ODT and the city-based Saigon Contemporary & Ballet Dance Company (SCBC), aims to create a platform for Vietnamese and international choreographers and dancers to meet and share their skills, as well as introduce their new works to audiences in the region and the world.
The festival will feature two dance pieces including Paint the Galaxy by Singaporean choreographer Danny Tan on November 3 and Mẫu (Mother) by Vietnamese choreographer Hà Thanh Hậu on November 4.
Talk shows with choreographers and dances will be held as well.
After the performances in HCM Ctiy, the two dance pieces Paint the Galaxy and Mẫu will be brought to the DanzINC festival in Singapore from November 5-11.
The DanzINC festival will take place at 7pm at the Renaissance Riverside Hotel Saigon, 15 Tôn Đức Thắng, District 1.
Athletes to compete in Table Tennis Clubs Cup
The annual Table Tennis Clubs Cup by Hànộimới (New Hà Nội) Newspaper will see the participation of more than 300 athletes competing for 12 sets of medals from November 3 to 6 at Hà Nội's Trịnh Hoài Đức Gymnasium.
Athletes from 68 teams will be divided into different categories based on their professional status as pro or amateur, gender and age.
Winners will walk away with their medals and prizes totalling VNĐ124 million (US$5,000).
Supporters can enjoy the matches free of charge.
Free IVF treatment programme to help infertile couples in poverty
The Mỹ Đức Hospital’s annual charity programme called Ươm Mầm Hạnh Phúc (Nurturing Happiness) in HCM City will begin to accept applications for free IVF treatment on November 8.
The 9th programme will provide free IVF treatment to 80 couples who are too poor to pay for it.
The application deadline is November 22.
The programme’s chosen couples will start treatment on December 5 at the IVF Mỹ Đức health facilities.

The programme is an initiative by Professor Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Phượng, former director of Từ Dũ Obstetrics Hospital in the city and the first doctor in Việt Nam to offer fertility treatment in which embryos are introduced directly into the uterus, called in vitro fertilisation (IVF).
HCM City schools to adjust opening times
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training on November 1 issued a document requesting local schools to adjust their hours.
The move came after many parents in the city recently complained that their children had to go to school too early in the morning, which badly affected their children's health.
In their document sent to schools at all levels, the department requested that kindergartens and primary schools start morning hours no earlier than 7.30 am; secondary schools no earlier than 7.15 am, and high schools no sooner than 7 am.
HCM City has a total of 1.70 million students. Some schools have already delayed morning start hours following parental complaints.
Vietnamese, Hungarian NA offices promote cooperation
Secretary General of the National Assembly and Chairman of the NA Office Bui Van Cuong held talks with his Hungarian counterpart Such Gyorgy in Hanoi on November 1.
The Vietnamese official said the relations between their legislative bodies have become stronger and more practical, adding the two sides have supported, and closely and effectively coordinated with each other at multilateral parliamentary forums; and contributed many initiatives to regional and international parliamentary organisations.
Cuong expressed his hope that the two legislatures’ offices will continue to coordinate closely to serve the Vietnamese and Hungarian NAs to implement their cooperation agreement signed on June 27, 2022 in Budapest on the occasion of the official visit to Hungary by Vietnamese NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
He suggested Such Gyorgy consider signing a cooperation agreement to further share working experience and enhance cultural exchange between civil servants of the two NA offices.
The Hungarian official congratulated Vietnam on great achievements in reform and integration, and rapid economic growth, and spotlighted the crucial role played by the Vietnamese NA in the process.
The frequent exchange of experience between the two countries’ NAs is a key to the bilateral effective cooperation, Gyorgy said.
He spoke highly of the establishment of the Vietnam-Hungary Friendship Parliamentary Group, saying that the Hungarian NA is also accelerating the formation of a similar group of Hungary.
Agreeing with the Vietnamese official’s proposals, the guest said the signing of such cooperation agreement between the two NAs will contribute to effectively implementing the agreement signed in the framework of the Vietnamese top legislator’s recent visit to Hungary.
Hanoi to speed up relocation of universities, hospitals, industrial establishments
The ministries of Health, Education and Training, Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs must urgently complete the roadmap for the relocation of universities, hospitals, and polluting production facilities outside the Hanoi metropolitan area.
Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi made this appeal at an interpellation session at the 15th National Assembly on October 31 in Hanoi.
The Ministry of Construction has reviewed the relocation work of 36 central agencies, Nghi said, adding that it remains slow due to changes in guidelines, policies, and laws, especially the Land Law.
The policy of relocating ministries, branches, and central agencies outside Hanoi's urban core was approved in a Vietnamese government resolution in 2008.
Numerous Hanoi residents have been yearning for concrete measures by the municipal authorities to speed up the relocation of universities, hospitals, and polluting production facilities to reduce environmental pollution and traffic jams and save land for public spaces.
Journalist-photographer Nick Ut meets “Napalm girl” in Hanoi after 50 years
Journalist-photographer Nick Ut and Phan Thi Kim Phuc, the girl in photo “Napalm girl” have just had an exchange session at the Vietnam Press Museum in the capital city of Hanoi on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of “Napalm girl” photo.
The historic “Napalm girl” image was captured by journalist-photographer Nick Ut in 1972 about Phan Thi Kim Phuc and others screaming and running out of the bombed village in Trang Bang, Tay Ninh Province.
At the meeting, photographer Nick Ut shared his unforgettable memories of Kim Phuc from 50 years ago. The historic “Napalm girl” image brought him Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography in 1973. Besides, the English New Statesman magazine votes Ut’s photo as the most impressive news photo of all time.
The historic photo has changed Nick Ut and Kim Phuc’s lives and contributed to awakening people’s consciousness about the American war in Vietnam.
At the Vietnam Press Museum, the photo has been gravely showcased along with tough stories when Nick Ut took the nine-year-old girl Kim Phuc to the hospital and she was saved.
On the occasion, journalist-photographer Nick Ut presented Vietnam Press Museum some exhibits that he used during his work in 1970.
About 800,000 people infected with influenza every year: Ministry
According to the Ministry of Health, the country has about 800,000 people infected with influenza every year. Worse, this is one of the respiratory diseases that can become epidemic.
Most cases of influenza infection are not highly virulent strains, but the fact that the infectious disease surveillance system shows that the number of hospitalized cases with influenza tended to increase recently, especially in large hospitals.
Patients infected with the flu have lately suffered complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis, and central nervous system damage requiring mechanical ventilation in infirmaries’ intensive care units.
According to health experts, from October to December every year, the continuing change in the Earth's climate will affect the viral activity and transmission of influenza. On the other hand, the changing pattern of common respiratory and enteric viruses has been leading to an increase in seasonal flu cases, increased hospitalizations, and deaths.
In just a short time, more than 730 students in the Northern Province of Bac Kan’s in Cho Don District had high fever due to flu, including one death of an 8-year-old student. According to Mr. Tac Van Nam, Director of Bac Kan Province's Department of Health, the number of children with high fever due to influenza began sporadically from the beginning of October and peaked from October 20 to now; consequently, 667 children had to miss their schools.
HBSO to present dance performance honoring love, loyalty in wartime
The HCMC Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will present a contemporary dance performance themed “Sunset” at the municipal Opera House on November 5.
The 60-minute performance includes three chapters honoring the love, loyalty and anticipation of the people during wartime.
The contemporary dance show will be performed by Meritorious Artist Tran Hoang Yen, dancers namely Dang Minh Hien, Sung A Lung and Do Hoang Khang Ninh along with artists of the HBSO.
Contemporary dance Sunset to premiere at Opera House on Saturday
The HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will present the premiere of Vietnamese contemporary dance Hoàng Hôn (Sunset) at the Opera House on November 5.
Hoàng Hôn consists of three parts – hy vọng (hope), tình yêu (love) and ánh mắt hoàng hôn (sunset eyes) - reflecting people’s love, faith and loyalty during the war time.
The work will be choreographed by Hùng together with Meritorious Artist Trần Hoàng Yến, one of the country’s leading dancers, and young dancers Sùng A Lùng, Đặng Minh Hiền and Đỗ Hoàng Khang Ninh.
The four of them will perform in the piece as well.
The dance’s music is written by veteran composer Vũ Việt Anh, who was musically trained in New Zealand.
The performance of contemporary dance Hoàng Hôn will begin at 8pm at 7 Lam Sơn Square in District 1. Tickets are available at the box office.
Consular Club’s annual charity bazaar to come back
The Consular Club of Ho Chi Minh City will host the 27th Annual International Charity Bazaar at the Caravelle Saigon in downtown HCM City on November 12, marking the club’s first major fundraising event after a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event is aimed at bringing back the club’s international charitable spirit with a high energy cultural bazaar rich in global products, international food and a wide range of cultural performances.
The Consular Club is an established volunteer-run charity of almost 30 years working to improve the the living quality of disadvantaged people in southern Vietnam with a particular focus on aid for orphans, the disabled, the elderly and ethnic minority groups.
All the money raised at the bazaars is used to fund projects to improve the lives of underprivileged communities in Vietnam.
The event will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Entrance tickets cost VND100,000 each, while children under 10 are free.
HCM City launches new information system to handle admin procedures
HCM City aims to improve administrative reform and public service quality to satisfy the needs of residents and enterprises through the city’s new information system for handling administrative procedures.
The city’s new information system at dichvucong.hochiminhcity.gov.vn offers 452 online public services.
The system, developed by VNPT, is based on a combination of the online public service portal and the electronic single-door system.
The system is integrated with the National Public Service Portal and the National Population Database under Project 06 of the Prime Minister, aimed at re-using the data and simplifying the administrative procedures.
To access the system, individuals, enterprises and organizations will be verified and granted only one account, which is used for public service registration of all levels via electronic dossiers instead of the previous paper dossiers directly filed at the competent agencies.
The system records all exchanged information and electronic transactions, enabling households and businesses to track the progress of their transactions. The system is also considered a surveillance tool for implementing public services by competent authorities.
Great requiem ceremony praying for national peace, safety opens in HCMC
A great requiem ceremony (Dai Le Trai Dan) was held by the representative board of the Chinese Buddhist community in HCMC and the HCMC Buddhist Sangha at the Nghia An Temple in District 5 on November 1.
Attending the event were Vice Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai and former Vice Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Vo Thi Dung.
The great requiem ceremony featuring Buddhist traditional worship and rituals aims to pray for national peace and safety, pay tribute to soldiers who sacrificed their lives for national liberation and defense and frontline forces who sacrificed their lives while saving patients during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The great requiem ceremony that is held every five years will run until November 9.
